Now, I'm not saying you have a virus, this is just something I've come across before. It wouldn't hurt to run some kind of antivirus and anti-maleware software as well since you said "...my hard drive has filled up by 10 gigabytes since last night, and it's only getting fuller."

WinDirStat can show your data on a drive in a visual manner so u can get a better idea of what is hogging so much space.
Do not turn off System Restore, it can be a life-saver. Over time though it helps to rid the system of all the built-up restore points. Also manually setting System Restore to a lower size can help. If you have say 500GB - 1TB HDD, a setting of around 1-3% for System Restore should be plenty.
Windows Updates Temp Files can now be handled by Disk Cleanup; so every so often use Disk Cleanup to get rid of such temporary data once updates have been applied and the system is shown to be functioning normally, then u no longer need such temp data on your drive.
If you do not use Hibernation Mode, u can disable this too as a means of freeing up some disk space. As the temp file used for hibernation mode is usuaully auto set to around 75% of the size of your physical RAM that is installed. So if you have 8GB RAM installed, hibernation file is taking up roughly 6-7GB worth of drive space for when it's needed. But again this file is only needed if u use this feature. To rid the system of the hibernation file, press Winkey+R to get the Run window to popup, then type CMD and click OK. This will open Command Prompt as an Admin user (or make sure u do this from an Admin windows user account). Once in CMD, type powercfg -h off and press enter key. That will delete the hibernation file. After that exit CMD window and restart Windows.
Use CCleaner to better manage and clear out other Temp Data as well as Temp Browser Caches.
If u need more drive space beyond doing these steps; then it's safe to say u just need a large drive, or more drives. If u install a secondary drive, then u can just put all your games on that drive and free up your C (OS) Drive.
With treesize - how much space is being taken up and where?
system/(left side) advanced system settings/(tab)system protection - click the box 'configure' then adjust the slider to how much space you want system restore to use (minium of 3-5gb id say). its says current usage -.--gb... delete if its alot of space used, then id recommend createing a new system restore point,so thats theres one to fall back on.ive a 1TB hdd and by defult it was set to use something like 100gb of space - so would have kept filling up but now set to 1% 18.63gb,id go less if i could but wont let me,hope this frees up sum space for you.
everytime you install/uninstall something it sometimes creates a new restore point
