CPU - GPU Bottleneck affecting overheating?
I recently replaced my slightly outdated Radeon HD 7850 2GB Card with a slightly newer R9 280X 3GB. I still use my original CPU (AMD FX 4-Core 4100 at 3.6GHZ). I am aware of the Bottlenecking this is causing, and plan to replace my CPU when Win 10 is released. However, I want to know if a Bottleneck can cause overheating. When in-game, regardless of game or hardware specifications, I get FPS drops to around a third of my usual FPS in said game, however when I open my window, the FPS drops cease. While I could easily tolerate for this by simply keeping my window open, I live in South Wales, which gets particularly cold this time of year, so when playing games such as CSGO, I am shivering while holding my mouse, which affects performance. If this is being caused by the Bottleneck, is there a way I can stop it, or at least lessen it's effects? (Don't say upgrade hardware or install new fans, I'm not an idiot, if I could, I would've by now).

No, a bottleneck will not cause overheating.

Ok, so what's causing it? I haven't switched my PC's position, the only change I have made is the Graphic's Card, which is causing the Bottleneck. Do you have any theories?

You probably don't have enough cooling fans in your computer case.

Perhaps. Now that I think about that, it seems logical. I'll need to get another fan then.

What model 280x? What are the actual GPU and CPU temps you get when gaming?

I haven't checked the temperatures. And it's the Sapphire 3GB 280x

R9 280X is lot more powerful card then HD 7850 and generates more heat. If you have only one fan in your case for instance it's really not enough.
If you have free case fan slots in your case then add some fans.
Front and sidepanel slots as intake, back and top slots as exhaust.
Or if you have some cheap case with only one exhaust fan on back and no options to add extra fans then it would be best to get new case with better ventilation options.

My case is the i9 (Look it up). I has a few fans, I'm not sure if enough.

If you mean this case:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/X-Case-i9-Gamer-Pc-Case/dp/B00H6JSIA2

then this should not have much problems with ventilation.
You could try to set your graphics card fan speed to manual in Catalyst Control Centre and raise it to around 75-80%. Check that your GPU temperature wont hit higher then 90C under heavy load. Around 80C is prefered.

And to check your graphics card temperature better and tune your card performance and fan use google MSI Afterburner.

Yeah, that's my case. Ok, I'll check the temperatures.

Ok, I raised the fan speed, only issue now is that the fans are loud as ♥♥♥♥.
