Is there pcie x16 slot on motherboard?
Both of those are very low-end graphics cards that will not play current games well. You'll want to go for at least a GTX 750 or a R9 270.
Also, don't judge a graphics card solely on the amount of VRAM.

Don't lie. I own a gt610 myself. Total trash, only as powerfull as intel hd 3000 integrated which is also terrible.
And if gtx 750 ti is too expensive for you, look at the cheaper 700 series cards. Like: gt 740, gt 730 or gt 720.
gt610 and 8600 can atleast handle 10year old games
q45 is a gma x4500, not the intel hd igp series
So you suggest upgrading from total rubbish, to another rubbish ? The 8000 series are so old they probably even cost more because of rarity... The gt610 he linked costs 60$. For the same price he can get a gt720 which is almost 3 times more powerfull and actually capable of modern gaming.

Or this one: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-GT720-2GD3-CSM-ASUS-Graphics-Cards/dp/B00MSOG762/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1421249900&sr=1-1&keywords=gt+720&pebp=1421249940548&peasin=B00MSOG762
paying for one is a waste
i agree if he is going to spend money on a gpu, get a r7 or gt x40+ card
or r9 to gtx card
depending on his budget
if on a very small budget
PowerColor 5450

its weak, but miles ahead of the intel igp
and $33 shipped with $15 rebate
got one a long time ago for free after rebate, $20/20rebate
was capable of games at 720p at lowest settings
unreal 2k4 ran great on it, and it was great for movies/videos
This thing's ALMOST able to run Warframe on the lowest options. It runs KF on normal graphics, 800x600 (60FPS plus playable on what I call "bad maps"), Medium on Red Alert 3... really, the issues only come in around 2012+ games.
The real reason I want it is support for MSAA+OpenGL. I'm reading through, though, and there are a few cards I think I'd take over the one I'd picked out. Thanks for saving me from a bad purchase.
6870, GTX560ti go for $40-50 used, personally I'd aim for an HD6950 2GB used cheapo card if your psu is remotely good enough.
8400,5450 and 610 are all flash game multimedia cards don't get suckered.
