Any PC needs adequate RAM for the applications you want to run. It isn't just about gaming. If you run out of RAM, then the OS will need to utilize slower resources like your hard drive or SSD. You need to look at the requirements for each application and determine what amount of RAM is recommended.

RAM speed is also important, but not as critical as the amount you have unless you have a video chipset that relies on system RAM for it's memory.

Pretty important. If a game requires 6 gigs ram, then you need at least 6 gigs on your PC.
If its just mostly gaming, 8 Gb should be fine for a while longer. If you are doing anything like rendering or encoding video, streaming games while playing or other high end processes 16 Gb might be the better choice.

CPU & GPU is most important but yea ,8gigs of 1600mhz will do okay.

ram speeds for gamign make very little difference

but for the price diff good 1600 kits dont cost much more than cheap generic 1333 or slower kits
