new router lagging me and cant play online games
Had a cox 2 in 1 modem/router and thought getting my own router would make it better.
Bought that $250 nighthawk x4 POS and only my pc gaming is complete ♥♥♥♥. ps4, 360, netflix, browsing is all fine and i can do a 15 gig download in 30 min. but in games like csgo, lol, insurgent... i get 200-350 ping constant. before i got the router it was 70 ping with an a random lag spike here and there.

Ive did the ports, changed through all channels, set QoS, Prioritys, DMZ, and got a plain modem only from cox. my computer isnt ♥♥♥♥ for a fact and we have 100mbps.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?!?! its been over a month and netgear cant fix it. i dont want to run a line to my room because im leaving soon and would like to play on my days off.

How is your computer connecting to the LAN? Wired or wireless? What wireless card are you using, did you relocate the router, have you tried to call Cox?

Its wireless. and my wifi card inst the best cause it doesnt have the 5ghz channel, but my thing is, if the last router worked just fine, how come this router made for online gaming and fast speed. doesnt work right. what am i missing?

Are you using two routers now? If the cable modem has a built in router and you attached another router to it.. it is creating a double nat.. you need to set the cable modem/router to bridge mode and give it a new gateway IP.. ex if the new router gateway ip is 192.168.1.1, gatewayof old modem should be 192.168.0.1. So both must be done for two routers to work properly together.

If u have an all in one Modem + Router from your ISP, don't add another Router to that setup.
As it's not straight-forward in doing so if u don't understand how to make it work. As you will need to Disable the Modem's onboard Router or set that to Bridged Mode so a 3rd party Router can be used.

Otherwise I would go buy your own Modem + Router and then after u have that u can talk to your ISP and register your own modem with them so u can send them theirs back and rid your ISP bill of the Modem rental charge. But check with the ISP for a list of compatible after market Modems that will work with your ISP.

I RUN a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual on 5ghz there no problem, if your running on WiFi, 2.4 ghz you mite have interference, if you have 2.4 ghz 5ghz card connect to 5ghz on 5ghz there is a ranged issues, read here http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25182/~/resolving-poor-5ghz-wireless-range%2Fsignal-from-my-netgear-router

do a trace rout on your network to fine the problem, recommend software pingplotter free https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiYBn3Yg6QQ
