Radeon ramdisk is crap and you have to pay for it.
Radeon ramdisk just will slow boot time for windows, slow it down when shutting down, and slow all your applications in general while your computer is running. Theres a free version, and if you mount the image after windows loads, it only takes a few seconds, instead of five minutes at boot. Its completly free and you can use all your availabe free ram and not have to pay 20 bucks if you have 64 gig or more. Its Called softperfect ramdisk. If you dont make a boot disk it wont slow your computer down like ramdisk, just make an image file and save it. What ever you add files to the ramdisk it will save even though you unmount it. It will automatically unmount at shut down anyway, and not slow your comp start times and usage and shutdown times. So basically if you want to pay 20 bucks for a piece of crap when you can get a way better product for free be my guest.

I'm curious, why would anyone bother with RAMDisks for gaming?

Man you have to try it out to know what it is. Takes some experience to set it up in the proper manner for games. It will speed up high demanding vid and cpu games about 10x. It runs on virtual memory. No disk to read and write takeing all that time. It happens in milliseconds instead of seconds. If you set it up right so you only turn it on when you use your game it wont slow your comp down for other functions. My advice is to go to youtube and check it out. But please dont by a piece of crap that slows your comp down when you can get one that doesnt for free.

I know RAM is the fastest type of memory in the system, but considering the cost per GB why not buy another SSD and use that in RAID 0 instead? Or a single m.2 SSD? Less trouble setting it up. I guess it does make sense if you already have a lot of extra RAM, though.

Ram is way faster than ssd also. But with large games you cannot put fully on the ramdisk, ssd is a good alternative.

Hey have a hint for you read a book on dos commands you do not have to spend anything to make a ram disk. A few config.sys commands and a autoexec.bat file and that's it.
no software no nothing except a keyboard the ram disk is very old news. limited usefulness
start computer wait for things to copy to ram...... run program............close program write new info to ram disk and close. Then do it all over again.
you gain very little using it for games unless it has many cut scenes or loading screens otherwise even with a good sat I still am first in game waiting for other players.

Ram Disk = for people with money and time to waste every time they want to play
