How does Fanless graphics card perform?
Do fanless graphic card: Asus GeForce GT 740 2GB DirectCU Silent

...run well on Windows/Linux machine?

I want to play Dota 2 on max settings with full-HD resolution, and maybe other games (counter-strike, GTA)

On Ultra, the GT 740M gets not even 25 frames.

And that's with a fan. Can't imagine it will run better fanless at Utlra.

i have a fanless 8800gt
worked good for a silent gpu

about on par with the gt740 (ddr3) performance

its way too slow for modern games

You don't understand how fanless graphics cards work(as in, ones designed to work without fans), do you?
They operate at a low TDP(basically, less heat is generated) so that the card can be passively cooled via just a heatsink.

There is a fanless version of GTX 750 http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=951&lang=en

Otherwise, I don't really recommend myself a passive one. I also used my PC for Photoshop, so I wanted always a passive one, but also did ocassional gaming and finding a card which is both silent and performs something in games is quite a task.
The current fans are so whisper silent that you won't hear those from your CPU and PSU fan anyways.

PS. Just found that Zotac offers such card too http://www.zotac.com/products/graphics-cards/geforce-700-series/gtx-750/product/gtx-750/detail/geforce-gtx-750-zone-edition.html

Zotac might be a more common brand in your area.

Dont bother with any GT cards, they are all too weak for modern games. GTX series is the way to go starting with GTX 750.

The last passive GPU I had was slow- and got as hot as 90 c.I don't think any of the later/faster series is offered w/o fan system- and you wouldn't want it anyway-they just simply get so hot they self-detruct w/o heat-sink and fans.Would you run a CPU w/o cooling? Not for long-

Some gpu's have better coolers than others, you can find some pretty quiet ones, unless you go with a massive multiple in series radiator setup for passive water cooling, you are going to need a fan.
I have 2* ATi HD 7750 (1GB GDDR5) passively cooled cards in Crossfire, and they run fine.
These were the best unmodded cards I could get for a basic quiet build, with music being a large focus of my life.
One card is Sapphire and the other is Asus, though they are the same spec .
Two odd things about these cards:-
1) They need no additional power [so, me buying that Platimax PSU was likely unnecessary]
2) They need no bridge cable connection between them in order to run in Crossfire mode.
Cooling-wise? I run the machine with the side of the tower off. Putting my hand next to them now, I can feel no real heat - though I haven't been running any 3D applications today.
The Platimax has a super-silent fan and I have only one other fan in the tower; a Noctua, which I attached to the passive CPU cooler to be on the safe side.
Still, with those two fans and side panel off, this computer makes less noise than the slight hum of my sub woofer.

OK-What games do you run-and ATI/AMD doesn't use or need a SLI for that series -and what CPU ? All later series GPUs run really hot when stressed-and some CPUs are 125w TDP-I'm curious, thats all...........
Astraea Kisaragi 2014 年 11 月 7 日 上午 9:21
Btw would be good if we would know why is your criteria to get a silent card. If noise, as I said before, the times when we had those cards with 6cm fans with a noise of a MIG-21 are long over.

Non-reference dual-fan coolers like DirectCU (ASUS), Windforce (Gigabyte), Twinfrozr (MSI) are so silent that is impossible to recognize them by a running CPU fan - even by a silent aftermarket one.

Actually, there are low TDP CPUs in devices such as smart phones, tablets, and portable gaming consoles.

Not that run hi-end /hi -res graphics and "phone games" don't apply nor do personal hand helds-we are talking PC.............

It doesn't SLI because that's nVidia branding.
It does, however, Crossfire, which is essentially the same thing for ATi cards.

The cards are running @ PCIE 2.0 *16 - as my MoBo doesn't support PCIE 3.0, though the cards do.
I have an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Processor: 6* cores @ 3.3GHz - stock (though it seemed stable @ 3.5GHz, when I tried it)
16GB of (PC12800) 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
1TB Seagate ST310005 24AS (SATA2) - which is, apparently, a bad performer, though has a 32MB cache to aid it.

The newest game I tried on highest settings was Rage, and other games with large draw distances were Crysis and Warhead (using the same engine) and Skyrim.
All ran fine, though I don't have a hi-res monitor, only a (5:4) 1280*1024
I know they're not cutting edge, but some aren't very optimised either.
I mean, I was never satified with the game and performance oddness happening in variations of the original Far Cry but never hasd issues with Mass Effect on full settings.
ps. The reason I haven't posted opinion for more modern games is because, though I do own them, I came to the party late, have a lot of catching up to do and am a bit /\ |\| /\ |_ regarding playing through a series in sequence.

2* ATi HD 7750...its generally a bad idea to sli lower end cards, the performance gain simply doesn't make sense per dollar, sli is for going beyond what a single card can do. and for the extra cost one can just get a all in one water cooler or the quietest card of a line.
