ASUS Z97-K
Does anyone here have it? Any thoughts? Is it good? I'm thinking of going with it, since it seems the ideal choice for modern mid-high-end gaming rigs.

The board:

it supports crossfire, not sli
fine for amd gpus

if using a 5.1 reciever, you need a spdif header adapter
http://www.amazon.com/SPDIF-RCA-Plate-Cable-Bracket/dp/B0035J9Z7Wr
but for stereo to 5.1-7.1 analog, you can use the 3 rear jacks

else it looks fine
Damn, I use nVidia GPUs... that's a buzzkill, even if I have little interest in SLI/Xfire because of the problems that come with it, but it may be better in the future... ah well, if that time ever comes, I suppose I could always just buy a couple of AMD GPUs.

I do have one concern, and that is the battery; I'm wondering if it's maybe too close to the PCI-E 16x which would get in the way of my ASUS 760 OC. I imagine it won't, but I like to obsess over every single detail... just in-case. :P

Thanks for the feedback.

The battery won't get in the way. It's way too small for that.

I'd wager they've tested the board with various GPUs in order to test these issues before putting it on sale.
and most of the time a mobo will be obsolite before its cmos battery dies
a cr2025-2032 battery can make it over 10 years
Awesome.

That's not really what I was getting at. xD I wouldn't have minded taking the GPU out to replace the battery, for example, but it was just it being there that worried me. I know they last for ages. I've had ancient rigs that were from the late 90s and their battery still works. Hah

Nvidia SLI supported Asus board is Z97-A. It's better then K and doesnt cost that much more.

The Z97-K is £94 where I'm buying it from, and the Z98-A is £119. That's actually quite a modest increase for a 3-way SLI, but, I'd be surprised if I ever use 2-way, let alone 3. With the driver issues, micro-stuttering, games with compatibility issues, and whatever else is an issue with SLI/Xfire, I think I'll just carry on assuming I won't use it for years to come. :P

I appreciate the suggestion.

.... on the other hand, I'll think about it, because that's a nice board. :P
