Laptop performance is getting worse
My laptop's performance has been going downhill since last month. I was able to run games like TF2 with a awesome 110 FPS, but now the most i'll get is like 50. Why is this happening? I am keeping all my drives up to date, but my laptop's performance is just getting worse.
Specs :
Processor : Intel Core i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70 GHz (4 CPUs)
Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
Current Memory: 4096 MB RAM (could this be the case? How do I increase this?)
Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics 4000
DirectX Version : 11

It could be caused caused by dust buildup.

You could try cleaning the registry with ccleaner.

You should be able to increase the ram by unscrewing the small flap on the base of your laptop. There should be a spare slot, be sure to ground yourself before touching the ram module. As you will need to check it so you can buy matching ram,

Would a solid state drive work?

I don't think that will help with your problem. It would improve your loading times is all.
To be honest you would probably be better putting any money towards a new laptop with a gaming gpu.

I do have a lot of space in my drive. Could I use that for RAM?

It is already kind of used. Another 4GB of real ram may help a bit.

Also, check your power options in control panel are set to performance/balanced.

it is like thermal throttling, possibly due to dust build-up.

check temperatures of laptop componets using speedfan, hwinfo, cpuid hardware monitor, or speccy and post here. (cpu, gpu, hdd, etc)

Although high temperatures can make the pc very laggy,i dont think thats the reason in your case.It takes a lot of months and years for dust to build up but you said its been only 1 month.Have you opened task manager?Maybe other processes are throttling the cpu.

They patch the game every month. Check if your video settings have changed.

Wait, I don't really want to spend money on a gaming computer or buying ram just to play TF2. Is there a way to do it just on the computer?

Lol who talked about upgrade?Upgrade for tf2?Get real,tf2 is 7 years old and the requirements havent changed. If you could run it at 100 fps then you can run it at 100fps again, something changed in your pc and you must find what,tf2 hasnt changed though.

Would a factory reset work? It says i'm missing a partition though.

Your laptop's refresh rate is probably only around 60 so I don't think getting a higher fps rate than 60 would look much better.
