A problem with my my HP-Deskjet 3520 printer!
I have bought the printer last night, but it does not connect to my PC. So, when I put the USB cable, my PC does recognise it, but when I try to set it up through the CD, it keeps saying: Please, connect the printer to your PC with the USB cable. It's already connected though.
I tried it with my old PC running on XP OS, and it worked well :/. I bought this printer so I can use it on my Windows 7; 64 bit OS. The printer does actually support Windows 7; 64 bit.
I tried lots of things last night, but none worked. Please, can you help? I have lots of researchers to submit to my collage in 48 hours, and I have no idea what to do now....

In case you need my specs:

OS: Windows7; 64 Bit.
CPU: Intel i7 4770
GPU: AMD RADEON SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6 GBs, overclocked edition.
Ram: 16 Gigabytes (2x8)
Motherboard: GigaByte Z87-D3HP
PSU: Coolmax (80 plus gold) 1000 W

when installing printer drivers, do not connect printer cable until told to do so.

first install printer drivers.
when prompted, turn on printer and connect printer cable from it to usb port of pc.

That did not work out either. On the XP system, once the printer is connected, a notification pop-up appears, saying: HP-Deskjet 3530 is ready. However, that never happens on this PC with the Win7; 64 bit. I tried connecting it to every USB port I have, it just never works, yet If I look through the USB ports/hubs, I see it connected.

If the drivers were installed in the wrong order, you will have to unplug the printer, completely remove the driver s and start again.

with hp printers, install the drivers first, then plug in the printer when it asks
else windows will try to install an old obsolite driver, and the hp driver does not remove it

So, what am I supposed to do now? How can I un-install the drivers?

Al-right, I'll do that as soon as possible, and I'll update what happens on here.

Incidentally... I actually solved the problem whilst following your directions. I saw that a printer that I never used or even put was set as default. It was named as OneNote.. - something -. Anyway, I removed it, and set the new printer as the default one. Now, everything is working!
Printed all my researches and homeworks!
Thanks guys :).
