Hard Drive Shrink Partition Leads To Unexpected Error
Title. I don't know why this is, I recently installed my new hard drive using the power and SATA connector, but it won't show up in my http://prntscr.com/4xjufb unless I manually assign a drive path to it everytime I boot up my computer.

Another problem is that everytime I try to shrink the volume to create a partition, I get this http://prntscr.com/4xjusc

NTFS, 1000 GB, completely clean, never installed anything on it so far, until I figure out what is going on. I tried googling this with 0 solutions.

EDIT: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, reall copy

Help much appreciated,
Kevin

You have to re-assign a drive path each time, because it is a dynamic drive, not a primary. That is the only logical reason. If you have this drive partitioned into 4 sections, you will have to back up the drive and repartition the entire drive.. because you can't simply re-format the dynamic partition and it become a primary.. you must redo the entire drive..

Isn't there anything I can do to change that? Primary is grayed out and the only option I have is to make it a Logical Drive.

There may be a way, but I just know that for me to solve my issue with it being dynamic, i had to repartion the entire drive and format. I had mine split into 3 partitions as well. But there may be some program that I don't know about. I can only speak from my personal experience..

Hello guys, this may come as a surprise but I have solved this problem, very unexpected fix.
So apparently my harddrive was in the 'Hidden' state, and literally all I did was use the cmd diskpart command by:

cmd -> "diskpart" -> "list volume" -> "select volume 2" (my hdd) -> "attributes volume clear hidden"

Closed cmd, re-booted, it was showing up but as driver letter Z:. I opened disk management, changed the drive letter back to D:, re-booted. Problem solved. This took me a while to figure out and I had tried ALOT of different apps, almost got to the point I was about to buy a new harddrive... But never did I know that it was this simple.

I would like to thank you all for your help, take care. :)
