Solaris support?
It's like some years after solaris was made, why isn't it supported yet? Lack of scripts for solaris games?

I assume you are talking about the Operating System Solaris made by Oracle (Sum Microsystems). Solaris OS has an even smaller marketshare than Linux (Around 5%). Games are starting to come out on Linux for several reasons. Valve's SteamOS is based of Linux so companies have already started to port their games over. Game developers/publishers are seeing that Linux is likely going to take over the PC gaming market in the next few years. Linux is free, open source and heavily customizable. In todays modern world people don't want to spend £70 or $100 on an OS just so they can play a few games and browse the web. Solaris is a UNIX based operating system, Ubuntu, SteamOS, Linux Mint etc... are all Linux based operating systems. The games would have to be ported to UNIX to work on Solaris and nobody would probably game on it anyways.

OK read back what you just posted and actually think for a second.

For one Windows 10 will be a free upgrade so price is no longer a boundry.

Now consider that the large majority of gamers playing in their living rooms are casual PC users, what do you think they'd prefer, the ability to install an app with a double click, have everything work OOTB and be able to play games without spending hours every other week rebuilding their OS around the latest video driver release or, well, having to rebuild their OS every other week because Nvidia just released a new driver and for some reason XWS decided it was gonna throw a tantrum? How about the installation of additional software, Windows is a double click, next next next, wait and double click the icon on desktop, Linux you have to know exactly what you want, find it in the app center (if the distro has one) or get the bash shell up and apt-get it then worry about which dependencies you need because said app wont run (which again might require the bash shell just to run the app).

Users used to windows have a real hard time getting their head around Linux scripting and the fact that everything you do in Linux is script based, most just want an app to run with a double click and not have to bash it everytime.

Honestly (and i love linux myself) the average intelligence levels of home gamers is way to low for LInux to take over as mainstream at any point in the near future. Linux is just to much hard work to use and maintain and i don't see SteamOS changing that.

Windows 10 is a free upgrade for Windows 8/8.1 users, but Windows 8/8.1 users make a very small percent of the Windows marketshare, Windows 7, Vista and XP are still more popular than 8/8.1 so this free upgrade won't do much interms of breaking a price barrier and the disk version I guarantee will still cost money and that is the option you would want. Upgrades always cause issues with drivers, software and they often fail. Linux is completely free and is not hard to use and alot of the programs are now just a simple double click and done, the .deb files have made this alot easier. You don't need to be a genius to use Linux. It's the same thing with Windows, they both have their simple and advanced features. Programs on Linux can install with a double click, it's just alot of users like to install software through the terminal. Linux is happening, Valve thing so, alot of analysts do and Windows has been on a downfall since Windows 8 was announced and Windows 10 still doesn't look like it will regain the former glory that Windows 7 and XP once had. As for drivers NVIDIA and AMD are improving their drivers to work alot better on Linux, I'll admit some work is needed but it is easily doable, and after that you have an OS that is easier to use, more customizable, faster, more stable and more secure.

To this day windows 10 is available free to anyone with a computer, and can also be burnt to a disk and put on new computers free aswell, allowing windows, Linux, and solaris to be considered valid options for use on the pc. it surprised me to hear how small the solaris community was, even though the developers of java created solaris, and over 3 billion devices run on java, you would think at least 20% of people with computers would be using solaris. The reason I believe solaris is so uncommonly used is due to the fact that it isn't pre installed into any computers, forcing the users to update to it after purchase. if solaris was more commonly found pre-installed to PCs today, I would expect more PCs to be running on solaris than on mac, roughly about the same amount as windows, and games ran on solaris. another reason steam doesn't support solaris yet is because solaris is a unix OS, differing from Linux, windows and mac, requiring new steam software, and new game software.

2. You just necro a dead discussion, good job.
3. Windows 10 free upgrade ended back in Jan 31st of this year 2018. It was free to everyone that has a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 key which doesn't matter if it's a OEM, or retail copy.
