Had a hands on look at a Strix the other day - was fantastic. Gigabyte one is apparently very good too.
That's just not true - look at this:

Don't waste your money.
You should wait for quantum computing and holographic technology while you're at it.
I have a GTX 580, and i can play everthing well on my pc. There isn't a big difference if you don't play games @ 2K/4K resolution.
You just waste your whole money.
Yup. Don't buy the iPhone 6. Wait for the 7. Don't buy the 7, wait for the 8.
Well, I guess I'm never buying a phone eh?
Your advice to wait for the next release ensures that people will never buy anything until the last model released by a company that's headed to liquidation.
If we always wait for the next release, we'll *always be waiting.
*Assuming company doesn't go to chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Why the hell would you waste money for 970/80 if you can buy new series after few months? Cmon man.. that doesn't makes a sense for me.
And that reason will be just as valid for why you should avoid the 1000 series because the 1100 series will be more powerful. Every new release should be in some ways better than the old one and if we hold out on such a premise, we will never buy anything until the company stops releasing product.
Why the hell would you waste money for 1070/1080 if you can buy new series after few months? Cmon man.. that doesn't makes a sense for me.
See my point?
IMO, if someone is on a budget, buy a used GTX 770. Those are going to fall below $250 on eBay in mass soon and the GTX 770 is still very powerful card.
Personally, I'm weighing the benefits on a GTX 970 on its additional cost over a used GTX770. I'm in a similar position to you where my current GPU can easily handle what I need, it's old, but I'm getting 250+ FPS in TF2 on 1080p on medium high. Do I need a new card to replace my GTX 560? Nope. But it would be nice.
The GTX 770 is still powerful you're right. There isn't a big difference to 970/980 if you play games @ 1080p.
