best hdd for gaming?
ok i got stuck with very slow hdd in very solid gaming pc, so i finally want to upgrade my hdd. i searched a bit for what is the best hdd gaming wise that are not much expensive and found out that most recommend wd blue 1TB wd10ezex as the best one. but when i went to pc-shop to buy it, guy there said they are terrible and mainly intended for storage and that i should buy only wd black for gaming machine. are there any experienced people who can give me advice on this, i myself am into IT but not much of my attention was towards hdds. thanx in advance.

WD Blue is "ok"

Better would be WD Black 1TB or 2TB

Blue is 3 year warranty, Black is 5 years

Best would be SSD; then just use HDD for general storage.
i know ssd would be best, but i cant afford 240GB ones, 120 are too small for games i need it for (arma2,arma3,dayz,etc... plus os, programs, etc...)
p.s. now i have 5400rpm samsung, it's terrible and slow and noisy at best :)

in fact everything came to black WD1003FZEX vs blue WD10EZEX
some say WD10EZEX is better for gaming after all, even if WD1003FZEX has slightly faster response times. but black one is a bit overpriced in my country, it is about 120$. blue one is about 80$.

Sorry; what country u reside/buying from?

120GB is not small; OS only take less then 30GB even with Hibernation, System Restore, PageFile, Drivers and crucial apps installed. That leaves plenty of games.

Right now many places having sales; so many SSDs are on-sale. About the price of what 120-128 GB ones were just weeks ago.

If you going to only buy a HDD and both OS + Games going to reside on it; then it's worth it to get a WD Black.

If u were using an SSD for your OS, then a WD Blue as a storage drive (and even for lesser demanding games) would be fine.

Black, blue or barracuda there're much the same minus warranty, your biggest problem is 5400rpm vs 7200rpm.

I run all my games off a 1tb black they all play and load fine to me but I don't own an ssd yet so what would I know.

Ps, OS is on a 640GB black.

Yes if anything, just get whatever 7200rpm SATA II or III drive u can afford.
At the very least it will be better then any 5400rpm drive.
I'm pretty happy with my Seagate 7200.14 1TB. Thin and fast drive, gets hotter though as my other one, but thats a 5900rpm WD Green drive. Some say WD is more reliable, but guess thats more a issue in the 3TB or more segment.
Reliability is a non-issue; anyone could get a dud, no matter what u buy.
But TBO the real difference between Seagate, WD and other internal drives is warranty.
And for that reason alone, never buy Seagate. Who want to pay same price for less warranty.

country is Bosnia, prices here are much higer than in other places, as i can see on internet at least.
i would be most happy if i could buy ssd for os, and then one blue for gaming. but i cant buy both. and to buy only ssd for os and leave my current one, i will not gain anything in gaming, since my current one is terrible, 5400 rpm samsung.
so, fom your post i can conclude the best solution is to get 1TB Black WD1003FZEX. since i can buy only one, and will keep everything on it (os + programs + games).
thanks for deep reply dude.
If Black is too much, then buy Blue
At the very least it will still be an improvement over any 5400/5900 RPM drives.
WD Blacks are the best IMO.
yea i'll probably go with black WD1003FZEX. i hope it will be worth that difference in price (around 30$ difference comparing to WD10EZEX blue).

Western Digital Black 7200 rpm, or Seagate Baracuda 7200 rpm-Both have capacity of 1tb or more.Theres a really cool Seagate Hdd/Ssd combo in one drive you get......120 gb ssd and 1tb hdd I would go for something like this if you can afford it. Good luck man.

Seagate has had a few bad batches from what I can tell so be careful when buying, I had 3 Seagate Hdds burn-out on me at one time, I was told only Seagate themselfs can unlock them to make em usable again.Stay with Western-Digital if you want my opinion.

yea i lean toward combination like that but unfortunately i cant get both (ssd+hdd) at this moment. since i need urgent change of hdd i'll get wd black right now to keep everything on it, os and games etc. later i'll buy an ssd for os and keep wd black for video games.
thank you very much for input on topic.
