Fan control for r9 270 on ubuntu 14.04?
Wondering if it's possible to get the fan to be silent at idle.

It should already be silent (or close to it) at idle or lower loads; if not then check the GPU Temps as that is usually a sign it is heating up.

However, it can be a bug of sorts for AMD GPUs to run their fan(s) at full speeds under certain Linux distros when the built-in drivers are used. Download and install the latest official version, which should help combat such issues.

For monitoring u can download PSensor app from the Ubuntu Software Center.

Unfortunately, I don't think that there are any programs which control a GPU's fan curve on Linux currently. I'm actually surprised that such a program doesn't exist yet.
