My brandnew headset mic does not work (Windows 8.1)
Just looking for some help. I bought a HyperX Cloud II headset and it works beautifully. For some reason though the mic doesn't.

Inside the audio management controls, when I check properties of my mic and go to the level adjustment I am unable to move the slider. Its stuck at 0.0 db??? I think this is my issue but I am not sure how to fix it!

When I chose "Listen" to my mic it works. When I try to configure it, it works as I start reciting "Peter prefers blah blah blah" but then the bar scale tapers of to not move at all when I speak.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Customer Reviews
Cons: No Config Software
Short cord (if not using USB)
USB Seems like a gimmick
Average sound

Other Thoughts: No software from Kingston to configure software parameters is simply inexcusable. It seems like the 7.1 addition was a poor afterthought. Once you plug in USB (or 3.5mm for that matter) you're simply left with whatever Windows allows you to change. That means, no EQ, no bass adjustment, no tweaking the 7.1. If you use the 3.5mm and your soundcard has these options then this is OK but, I found using the headphone setting (3.5mm) w/ my SoundBlaster X-Fi was not ideal. When you remove the USB connection, you lose the 7.1 virtualization of the headset and are left to whatever your soundcard will do. In this case, why bother buying this headset?

Using USB I found the virtualization in games to be nice and comparable to my previous CM Storm Sirus 5.1 headset. This headset is also very comfortable. I had no problems wearing them for hours. If you need the additional connection accessories, this is a plus, as well as a nice heavy duty carrying bag.

look in windows device manager to see if there any problem, to use device manager Google it

ok reading this
As far as setup goes, Kingston has done something really unique with the HyperX Cloud II.

Instead of relying on software and drivers, which run the problem of compatibility issues between different operating systems, the HyperX Cloud II uses the built-in hardware in the USB audio control unit to manage the device, making it one of the easiest headsets to setup in the market.

it looks like you can run the headset without the controller, not sure on that,

I have come across the same issue I bought a little splitter that splits the mic and speaker into two inputs, so I can stop using the USB box, you may also need an extension depending where you are plugging into you PC.

Something like this

Gaaaah I'm having this same problem using the same headset! I first noticed the issue as soon as I upgraded to windows 10, but upon bringing my headset to work and testing on win 8.1, the problem persists. The microphone is detected as a device and ready, yet picks up nothing. If you go into properties, the microphone level slider is locked at 0.0db- which I'm assuming is to be controlled by the USB controller, but the mute/unmute switch- or changing the microphone volume on the controller is ineffective.

I tried detaching the microphone from the headset and plugging it straight into 3.5 mm input jack. The mic then picks up sound no problem! Therefor this is solely an issue with the USB controller/drivers.

I tried uninstalling all the drivers in device manager, and rebooting to no avail. While I was doing this I noticed something very interesting.

Under the "recording devices" list, the microphone is detected and seems to be using a generic "hyper 7.1 audio" controller driver. Right clicking and going into properties, under details, you'll notice that the driver details declare the microphone as a "USB Audio device" [Figure 1]

Well this seems contrary to the Headset microphone driver listed under device manager- If you right click that driver and see the details, you will see the device is listed as an "Audio endpoint" [Figure 2] Which I assume is what Windows would define as a recording device.

It would appear to me, as lame-man that windows is confusing the controllers? I have no idea how I would specify, or switch the controllers that the microphone device is currently using. Does anyone else have any thoughts to add? Has OP solved this issue?

This is driving me INSANE!

Well regardless of headset, usually the MIC are all junk anyways.
Get a stand-alone Mic and use an Analog headset if u can. Since the analog headset will work on multiple things; where as USB it usually will not. However, the HyperX Cloud II works both ways.

Some USB headsets allow you to disconnect from the supplied USB box; but that is not a good idea since the included USB box usually includes a headphone amp of sorts. Most USB headphones really are just an Analog Headset + USB sound card; all in one package. Especially the cheap sub-$150 or so ones.

HyperX Cloud II has no Drivers/Software; as it is play&play.
Seriously simple though. Just ensure the Headset is set to Default in both Playback and Recording. To adjust HP/MIC volumes; do that from the USB receiver.

any solutions so far?
I'm having the same problem. However I've tested another headset (SteelSeries Siberia V2), and the same occurs. Only my onboard mic is working.

Think it's just the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ wiring of these headphones. Since I posted this thread I have RMA'd my headset, and got a new one and worked fine without problems. A month later it stopped working again, and the audio cuts out frequently. Worst headset I've ever owned. Never again. Not even worth the RMA process a 2nd time

I have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea. So I decided to make a Video with Mrilis Action! lastnight like I have a thousand times and it worked fine. Switched it over to my Youtube Gaming stream and it was good....then back to video. Audio stopped working.....tried Stream again....worked fine.

This headset as good as it is.....isn't work the grief.
