GTX 980Ti or GTX titan X?
Hello, one question! My goal is quite simple, i plan to buy a new PC (i will change every pieces), but i still hesitate for the GPU.... I want something that last long without the need to change it soon! my current build lasted 4 years and i can still run some recent games at 60 fps 1080p ultra like alien isolation, and some others!

What i want is the same, playing at 1080p, ultra setting at 60 fps for at least 3 years (yeah hard to know in advance sure, i can still change later, but the longer the better)!

The price isn't an issue, but since the 980ti and titan X are almost the same, except fort the 6gb vs 12 gb, what's the best? (SLI isn't great in comparison to one single card, more stable and less problem right)

anyway, thanks for your future answers (and sorry for my english)

4K is so overkill right now for gaming, I'll wait for DX12 to fully develop and Pascal to get on the market before considering 4K.

Titan imo

980 Ti is already faster than a TitanX; it just has the 6GB VRAM is all; if that's a Con.

Yea u basically need GPUs such as 680, 780, 970 to run most games like Witcher 3 at or near maxed out visuals, even on 1080p. The 980 does very well for such a game and can actually max out the visuals while still maintaining a decent FPS average.

EDIT:
Newer TVs offer DisplayPort, and so do all newer GPUs, for PC Gaming that is what I would suggest. Leave the HDMI for things like external players and consoles. If u have the option to, then DVI, but it's not a must. HDMI is just too limiting.

will i really see the difference between displayport and vga? i'm 2,5 meter away from my TV!

Yes:

VGA = Analog signal, electrical noise interference, lower quality, less bandwidth over cable length.

VGA Adapter = Weakens the screen quality even more, tends to break a lot of the time. Throw them away!

You really want DisplayPort, DVI-D (Duel Link), or HDMI 1.4+ for faster, stable, digital signal. You will notice the difference hugely on high-end graphic cards (looks much better, sharper, better colours, and less damaging to the eyes).

thanks, well that's probably gonna be Hdmi then, since there's very few tv out there with display port (but i'll try to find one since it seems to be the best to connect to a PC!)
If you can... avoid using a TV all together (input lag is approx 19ms response rate, compared to 5ms standard pc monitor or 1ms high-end gaming monitor).

Get a gaming pc monitor, then use streaming TV services on that instead. I don't know what type of TV channels you got however, so will depend on what you're after.

Services that might cost: Hulu, Fancast, Netflix, Joost, TV on Demand, etc.

Or a TV Tuner (additional hardware installed in the PC or via USB), if you want Free to Air - then setup Windows Media Center or similar to make the entire PC an entertainment system.

Well something to consider at least.

Seriously high-end gaming monitors (that will make a GTX 980 output truely amazing and smooth), if you can afford...

BenQ Gaming Monitors (1080p - 1ms response - 144Hz refresh - TN panel):

XL = FPS gaming
RL = RTS gaming

Asus VG248QE (1080p - 1ms response - 144Hz refresh - TN panel):

Asus ROG Swift PG278Q (1440p - 1ms response - 144Hz refresh - GSYNC - TN panel):

Acer Predator XB270HU (1440p - 4ms response - 144Hz refresh - GSYNC - IPS panel):

You will be shocked at the difference. But yeah, price tag too.

According to preliminary tests it isn't faster. It will be illogical for Nvidia to make video card from defective GM200 (22 working SM from 24) faster than full-featured and significally more expensive card. This could be possible only if GTX 980 Ti will have much higher GPU freq and, as far as its already known, it will not.

GTX 980 Ti - Actually sits nicely inbetween the GTX 980 and Titan X performance wise, but on top price wise. It's still a better purchase. The Titan X price (at least here anyways) is seriously marked up and will likely get future price slashes (it has already had a couple). Two GTX 980 in SLI will outperform a single Titan X, and at a cheaper price tag. A single GTX 980Ti will give you about 20% more gain over the single GTX 980, therefore price wise, it's currently a better option if you can afford it - comparing the price change between GTX 970. Still the GTX 970 actually gets the most performance to cost ratio, but I would stay that limits you to 1080p resolutions, even though it can handle 1440p, I wouldn't recommend it when it comes to that resolution or higher.

Well, i don't watch "tv", i just play console and PC on it, like i said, i'm 2,5m away from it, and having all my thing on a single monitor is way simpler for me... well i could still just buy a gaming PC monitor and put it the table in front of my couch just for PC games but.... i don't know, i'll think about it, and i didn't really noticed the input lag honestly
980 Ti will be faster, I can assure u. Why and how? Because of them allowing 3rd Party OEMs to take it into their hands and customize it; unlike the TitanX. The only way the TitanX is a good snag is for those that really need the higher VRAM.
You can play console on a PC Monitor via it's HDMI connection (depending on version - next-gen consoles should be sweet with it) or with a converter cable, tv tuner, or similar device (if an old school console still with analog cables). The only thing you might miss out on is viewing angle range (depending on monitor). The PC itself can then run off the DisplayPort or DVI-D connection.

Also, you won't really want speakers builtin a pc monitor (they are rubbish on pc monitors), instead you would want to redirect audio, if possible to the computer speakers, soundbar, or a surround sound system, etc.

Actually, there are custom Titan X models coming, including an AIO liquid cooled from EVGA. The 980 Ti won't be faster, but it'll be damn near close, and at the price point the Titan X will make absolutely no sense.

^ This - The graphic card generates very high-end, but the monitor itself is the output of it all. They must be able to support each other to keep up and reach amazing quality, without simply wasting it!

I also personally highly recommend the BenQ XL series for some serious gaming.
