CPU + Motherboard + RAM (Memory) + PSU (Power Supply Unit)
Also, what is your monitor and do you plan to upgrade that too later on in the future?
The best way to plan your components is by balancing them out, with no bottlenecking. Then work a future proofing plan around that too.
I Can't remember exactly, i can tell you when I finish work! But it's old, it crash everyday, some games run slower than it should, etc... I didn't took care of it like i should have, but i'll do for thé next one!
I'll change everything, except my monitor, because it's my tv (but i'll certainly change it at the end of the year... Probably with 144hz like you said)
read techspot's review on gtx 980ti
so... i probably don't need to change my CPU, since it's a i7-2600 K... But like i said, i didn't took care of it, even with reinstallation and cleaning everything, it's still crash almost everyday, run poorly and slower than it should considering my build
i have a gtx 570, 8 gb ram and gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P motherboard
my monitor is my philips tv, it's says 200hz but unfortunately, i can't run it over 60hz on my PC, i tried to bypass it to 120hz with some tools, but it doesn't work either sadly (it's connected VGA to VGA)
Plus u are using VGA which u just should never use, it's analog, so yea don't use it. Always use a digital connection.
Also TVs are just plain BAD for PC Gaming.
yeah i know that so like i said before, i'll take really good care of the new one (i said in the OP that i'll buy everything new) i'm sure of that!
Also, some manage to get 120hz from tv on PC with some tweak, like this :
http://www.blurbusters.com/overclock/120hz-pc-to-tv/
unfortunately it doesn't work for my TV, so i'll check that for my next one! And i was wrong, it's VGA (tv) to DVI (pc), should i go to HDMI-DVI? (my tv don't have a dvi port)
To you it may be bad to play PC game on TV, but i'm really confortable playing on my couch, with controller or keyboard+mouse! (i don't even have room for a real PC desk in my little flat)
anyway, not really the subject! All i want to know is if i can last 3-4 years with a single 980.... since everyone told me that 980ti is overkill for 1080p gaming (still wanting to play with everyting maxed out, hairwork or tesselation included, at 60 fps)
Why does "Couch" have to equal "use a TV"
But yea I mean we make due with what we have, especially if lack of space is an issue, I get that.
But overall sounds like u need to take care of the system; start by properly cleaning it out, blowing out all the dust and ensure CPU/GPU temps aren't an issue if u are having issues.
Yes at 1080 - 1440, a single GTX 980 4GB should very well be plenty; as 980 Ti 6GB would most-def be total overkill. As far as it helping u keep gaming for 3-4 more years, no one can answer that.
You have a 2nd Generation PC - Sandy Bridge.
On the plus side, this removes 75% of the bottlenecking from 1st Gen PCs. It has more direct access between CPU to memory processing as well as CPU to graphic processing. It also allows for good overclocking of that i7-2600 K, if desired. It's actually not too bad for gaming purposes.
Optimal RAM performance for gaming purposes should be 8GB - 1600MHz or 1866MHz, with CL9 timing (or less) and run at 1.5 volts. The motherboard will take care of the rest. Slow might bottleneck, but faster won't show more than 1-3 FPS performance gain. It tends to work better with lower CL timing, rather than overclocked MHz.
Most performance gain will be from the graphics card. Ensure the PSU (Power Supply Unit) is at least 500-600W and has two PCI-e 12V 6-8pin cables (they will be clearly labeled) to give the high-end graphic cards the additional juice they need. Upgrading the graphics card will be a huge difference.
GTX 970 = At least 2.5 times more performance than the GTX 570!
GTX 980 = At least 3 times more performance than the GTX 570!
Your current motherboard ( GA-Z68XP-UD3P ) will allow one single card to run at 16x and not bottleneck. However, don't share it with another PCI-e card or do SLI of multiple graphic cards, as the share will reduce it to 8x each.
After a single GTX 980, the CPU will have to be overclocked or will start bottlenecking the GPU.
Your monitor is VGA, making it an analog signal. Avoid VGA adapters if possible. This is lower quality, you should strongly consider getting a PC Monitor with digital connection (using DisplayPort, DVI-D, or HDMI) and move up to FullHD. It will greatly improve the quality and make the most of the graphics card.
You will need to upgrade at least both the graphics card + monitor, to make the most out of it.
yeah thanks for the answer again, even if it sounds like i'm not changing my mind, it helps me a lot!
I'm far from my TV, i have my couch (that is also a bed so i can play while laying on pc games, that's quite enjoyable, haha)
The only thing that makes me doubt the 980 is the benchmarks with hairworks on witcher 3, if it can just reach 60-70 fps today, what will it be with new games in 2 two years for exemple?I 'm sure there's gonna be some PC focused games with gorgeous graphic sometime in the furure! That's why i think i'll take a 980ti anyway....(i see how titan X isn't gonna do much for me, especially since it's almost the same as the 980ti) There's also the SLI solution, but everyone told me that one single card is always better since some game support badly the SLI
the 980ti is only 150$ more than a 980... it's not that much for me, wouldn't it be safer for the future to simply take the 980ti?
570 struggled to play games like Arma3 / DayZ-SA at 30 FPS at 1080p.
970 had no issues running DayZ-SA @ 2160p at an average of 30-40 FPS (1080p @ 60 FPS) but again that is a bit high res; plus a buggy game still to. But again the 570 those two games are barely playable.
LOL OK, 980 Ti is not much for u bud, then why not just get a large-scale Monitor. Or a much newer HDTV. Trust me though, if all u gonna run is 1080p, then 980 Ti would be rather waste.
thanks a lot, that's really precise, i'll make sure to keep it in mind when i'll go buy my new build!
I really should have cared more about my current PC, because now, even if it's all cleaned and reinstalled (i did this two month ago since i was planning for a new card), it's still run poorly and crash randomly.... even get professionnal (i know one of them very well so it's not like he's gonna lie about it) took a look at it to be sure, and they said i should probably change it
That's why i decided to start again from the beginning and clean the new PC often!
When Witcher 3 first came out, the only lag issue was with Nvidia Hairworks. Both Nvidia and Witcher 3 created update patches later on to improve that performance, not once but 2-3 times. I know it will work better now, but just never tried it yet.
The tessellation of HairWorks is especially demanding on older Nvidia cards. AMD actually complained Nvidia hurt their graphic card performance on purpose, because they can't keep up with it either... *slaps forehead*. AMD hasn’t released a driver optimized for The Witcher 3 yet, but Nvidia’s 2nd latest driver includes Witcher 3 optimizations.
With a GTX 980, you can get between 45-60 FPS. It's about a 5-10 FPS dip with HairWorks turned on. I personally just keep it off to get a solid 60 FPS+, I should really retest it though, since the drivers and patch updates.
yeah don't worry, i plan to change my tv by the end of the year, i'll make sure to choose wisely this time (yeah i still want a TV since my couch is far from it, and it's perfect for all of my system, i doubt i'll find a real 46 inch PC monitor sadly)
would be nice if you told me your FPS once you tested it! Respond here or simply send me a private message, thanks a lot, you're really helpfull
EDIT:
Newer TVs offer DisplayPort, and so do all newer GPUs, for PC Gaming that is what I would suggest. Leave the HDMI for things like external players and consoles. If u have the option to, then DVI, but it's not a must. HDMI is just too limiting.
