"Operating system not found" Windows 7 message on start up
I get this message starting up on one of my computers. I checked the BIOS, the harddrive is detected. So I know that's not the issue. Don't have any clue what's going on.

The only thing I can think of is that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate onto it from a friend's CD but I doubt that could have something to do with it...

Any suggestions?

Have boot device #2 be set to your SSD/HDD that the OS will be installed to.
Then after u reach the part of the OS installer where it goes to Restart for that first time, here u can remove your USB device used for OS install and then go ahead and restart. This way it will now boot to the next drive in boot order.

What will be set in #1 and #3?
1) USB boot device
2) SSD or HDD
3) and beyond > Nothing cause it doesn't matter.

You only need to change #1 when installing/boot to something u need like this; such as USB or CD/DVD.

Okay, I tried that. Restarted it and still nothing? Takes me to the Windows Boot Manager screen where I can't click anything.

Then it sounds like your USB Flash Drive isn't bootable.
You need to properly set it up for this via the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool.
U did do this, correct? It occurs when you use that app, where u select the downloaded ISO from your local drive.

When u go to boot from USB, try a rear USB 2.0 Motherboard I/O port; as Front USB or 3.0 ports might not always work.

Yep, I set it up that way and everything. It's properly installed on the USB.

Update... now that I look at my harddrive in the BIOS it says there is none.. what the hell happened?
Power off the system and check the connections.
If it still happens after this, then the drive is probably dead.
Which could explain why the OS was failing earlier.
Might want to take the drive and hookup to a working system as a secondary drive, and run diagnostics on it.

Restarted it and the harddrive is detected again. (Says 500gb)

I have no clue what's going on anymore. It's 5 am over here and I've been at this for several hours today...
Try this. Set the USB boot device as #1 and set all the others (#2, 3, etc.) to Disabled.
See if that helps. If so then what to do afterward is when the OS installer goes to reboot that first time, u remove the USB device and then press to restart. Upon restart go back to BIOS and change Boot Device #1 as SSD/HDD

There is no disable option for any of those sadly. I can disable external device and network but that is in a different section.
then set it to usb/ext -> odd -> hdd/ssd
but make sure on the hdd/ssd order its your boot drive first

many boards can be set to not boot from specific drives or devices

Tried it.. still goes to the booth manager screen. What am I missing?

At the bottom it says "Windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry"
