Buying new screen: HDCP needed?
I may connect a PS4 to it too, possibly to record gameplay footage as well, so do I need a PC screen with HDMI HDCP? Or is that only to prevent pirating Netflix movies and stuff that people watch via their PS4 (which I wouldn't do; the piracy I mean. Watching movies via the PS4 may happen at some point as well)?

For general PC use, it won't matter. But that shouldn't really be a concern since basically any Monitor or HDTV with DVI and/or HDMI would be HDCP compliant. So even for Game Consoles via HDMI, not an issue.

As far as digital content provided through a PS3/PS4 (such as Amazon, Hulu, Netflix) that is a non-issue, as even on a non-HDTV via Analog Connections, that digital content is still playable without issues. HDCP is mostly a requirement for Bluray and 3D related playback. So for example; on an older analog TV with PS3/PS4, you could play DVDs, but not Bluray. As the TV /Monitor with require a Digital Connection, HDCP Compliant and support a certain minimum screen resolution for things like Bluray playback.

If you going to hookup a Game Console & PC via a single monitor, use the HDMI for the Game Console and DVI for your PC. Then you can run them both at the same time if u wish and just switch the Input mode via the monitors buttons, remote, menu systems.

Ok thanks. I compared some screen data sheets and some said "2 x HDMI" and some "2 x HDMI (HDCP included)" so my assumption was that HDMI would not necessarily include HDCP. I ordered som relatively inextensive flat panel screen to see how I will work with it, as I'm still running on some 17'' cathode ray screen as far as my gaming goes.

You don't need HDMI for PC, just the console.
Otherwise the only other method for hooking up a Game Console would be via an RCA Analog connection via a TV, as Monitors generally will not have those unless they are a Monitor w/ Built-in TV Tuner.

The new screen will have both HDMI and VGA, I think DisplayPort too. If one HDMI slot is free and the VGA slot does it make any difference how I'm gonna connect my PC? Like, more... "fluid" data stream via HDMI or less power usage or (noticeable) quality differences or whatever? Can any of these ports break more easily than the other? Like, use VGA until it dies then HDMI?

Don't use VGA, not on a gaming PC. It's ok for a secondary PC input or for a home server, but otherwise if not Digital, don't use it.

Get a display that has at least; 1x DVI + 1x HDMI
Most decent screens should have; 1x VGA, DVI, HDMI and DP
And as such I'd look at screens that are no less than about 23 - 24 inches that have those ports and is 1080p. Screens below this aren't really made any longer, or lack such support.

It's 23'' and 1920 x 1080 or something. There was a 27'' with the same max resolution but I wasn't sure about it, it cost almost twice and I read that the same resolution on a bigger screen does not automatically equal better quality. Then these "TN panel" screens seem to be a russian roulette somehow having faulty colors or pixels or whatever. I couldn not find a screen that did not have some user reviews were people complained about such things. So, if I have to go through the hassle of returning or accepting a faulty product I don't want it to cost too much.
