Internal network lag.
Hi all, I have been searching online for quite some time without being able to find a solution. I think part of the problem is that the terms are too generic and will search a million things not related to my issue.

So here is my issue, I seem to suffer from some kind of additional lag/delay when it comes to online games. I believe it is something wrong within my setup and here is my belief on why...

The game in which the issue was most dominant is a game called Darkfall Unholy Wars, when I fight a mob that is moving around I always miss it. Takes a good 2-3 seconds for it to properly update enemy position and then I can finally hit them. Another test I did was I followed a friend who was walking while I was running. I was constantly bumping into their back of course since I was running, but on thier screen I was several meters away bumping thin air. Then when they stopped moving I was still running and bumping the thin air for a good few seconds.

I took my somewhat old laptop and hooked it up using the exact same ethernet cable my desktop was using and these issues were gone... When enemies moved I could clearly see it and when I was following people I wasn't bumping into thin air meters behind where they were.

This seems to effect me in all of my games, though not as bad. Seems I am always a good half second "in the past" so to speak and it hinders me in pvp when the seconds matter. Its not ping/latency issues cause those are fine. Most games I play my ping is around 50, but it always seems like 150+. To emphasize that I feel it is my desktop, as I had mentioned earlier when I used my laptop these lag issues vanished, but not playable since the laptop is kinda old and can't support games too well.

My specs for my desktop:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS
Z77 FTW motherboard
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @3.50GHz
16GB RAM
Two GTX 670 Graphics cards
Marvell Yukon 88E8059 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 ATA Hard Drive

see where the lag is coming from

tracert google.com

first hop is your router
2nd is modem/isp
3rd -5th are isp
4+ are the isps backbone to internet

if the lag is to your router, then its a lan/wifi issue
check the cables

Before I post my results, I only use a modem. Also don't know if this means anything, but at the first hop it took a good ~2 seconds before the address showed. Then it went pretty quick for the rest.

Anyways, here they are:

is it a modem/router combo?
or just a modem with 1 pc connected?

6-7ms for first hop is kina high

does windows show it connected at gigabit or 10/100mbps?

Run SpeedTest.net and PingTest.net
If PingTest.net is constantly giving you poor tests, such as packet loss and high jitter, it could be your ISP. Such as your Modem/Router or the interntal connection in your home for the ISP.

_|_, it is just a modem with 1 pc connected. Says connected to gigabit.

Bad-Motha, Speedtest showed:
9ms ping
44 Mbps download
6 Mpbs upload

Pingtest showed:
0% packet loss
33ms ping
2ms Jitter

I don't think its the ISP, since when I used my laptop the wierd delay I had vanished.
