I was thinking of using it as a secondary monitor, would it be possible to game at 720p then?
720p is just a 16:9 for resolution is all.
Now as far as videos, that won't matter as long as your system can handle it, such as DVDs or 720p/1080p video from Flash/Silverlight/HTML5 content, such as YouTube, Amazon, Hulu, Netflix.
Yes you could game on that @ 720p (1280x720) you will just have to adjust the picture on the monitor is all, and the end result will be black bars on top/bottom since the screen is not a wide-screen format.

720p isn't bad but I have black bars with games that require 16:9 aspect ratio. It isn't too distracting but sometimes it's annoying. And you can't play Fallout 4
It is still HD so it is available on any game and low demanding.
