850 Pro have 10 year warranty; 850 Evo have 5 year warranty
And it can depend where u are finding those older 840, due to not being produced new from factory any longer.
If those don't meet your budget pricing, look at Mushkin or Crucial.
Samsung PRO series I much perfer and highly recommend. It never had any issues, I'm aware of. However, I don't believe the 850 EVO has that issue anymore either... it's just a 5 year warranty rather than 10 year thou. Still they are really good.
As for the pricing, that would depend on availably I guess - Samsung 840s are being replaced with the better V-NAND tech from the 850s series.
Note: Avoid purchasing on EBay, etc... there are some fakes going around for dirt cheap. Some people buying a few hundred for as little as $19USD each, thinking they had a deal of a lifetime, lol. Slaps forehead, if it's too good to be true... then...
Anyways...
Samsung 850 > Samsung 840 series by far, with better read/write, enhanced endurance and lifespan, and better power management.
Get that instead!
But I still don't get it how it's cheaper than the older generation one, 840.
Thank you, guys. Then I'll get the 850 one.
