[HELP] SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SATA-III 2.5 inch
vs
SSD Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SATA-III 2.5 inch

Why is the 850 EVO cheaper than the 840 EVO one? I don't get it. Isn't a new generation of product supposed to have a higher price? o_O Does the 850 EVO have missing features or what?

I wanted to buy the 840 EVO, but it's no longer in stock :-\ So I looked for the newer generation one, and its price is cheaper o_O but how?

Thank you in advance.

840 is old, get the 850

850 Pro have 10 year warranty; 850 Evo have 5 year warranty

And it can depend where u are finding those older 840, due to not being produced new from factory any longer.

If those don't meet your budget pricing, look at Mushkin or Crucial.

The 3-D V-NAND Samsung uses in the 850 has greater density than the TLC used in the 840, making it cheaper to produce.

Samsung 840 EVO has a degrading performance issue/glitch, but the latest firmware addresses or at least covers up / hides it.

Samsung PRO series I much perfer and highly recommend. It never had any issues, I'm aware of. However, I don't believe the 850 EVO has that issue anymore either... it's just a 5 year warranty rather than 10 year thou. Still they are really good.

As for the pricing, that would depend on availably I guess - Samsung 840s are being replaced with the better V-NAND tech from the 850s series.

Note: Avoid purchasing on EBay, etc... there are some fakes going around for dirt cheap. Some people buying a few hundred for as little as $19USD each, thinking they had a deal of a lifetime, lol. Slaps forehead, if it's too good to be true... then...

Anyways...

Samsung 850 > Samsung 840 series by far, with better read/write, enhanced endurance and lifespan, and better power management.

Get that instead!

The 840 PROs are still fast and extremely reliable drives. Between that and an 850 EVO I would just get whatever you can find cheaper. I wouldn't buy an 840 EVO at this point when the 850 is so much better.

I see. I've also checked the warranty of the 2 products. And the 850 one has 5 year warranty.

But I still don't get it how it's cheaper than the older generation one, 840.

Thank you, guys. Then I'll get the 850 one.

Thanks. I wrote 10 instead of 5 in my previous post. My mistake.
