Can't run games at higher than native resolution
I have a 19" display with a native resolution of 1366x768 and with a default refresh rate of 42hz, (I overclocked it to 60hz using nvidia control panel). Yesterday, i could still play skyrim and borderlands the presequel at fullscreen at 1920x1080. Today, I could not. When I launch the game at full screen at 1920x1080 resolution, the game runs, but it will just keep minimizing, hence I can't play it at 1920x1080. However, I could run games at 1366x768 (which is my native resolution) I want to know if this problem occured because I installed windows 7 service pack 1 today. I needed to install it because it was required by Adobe After effects to run. Can someone help me resolve this issue? :(

Specs:
- i5 4590 (processor)
- 8gb RAM
- gtx 960 (GPU)
- ASUS z97 plus (motherboard)
- windows 7 ultimate (OS)
*I just built this PC last week

I don't know why you want to run it at higher than native resolution in the first place. There's really no point doing that and visually it may even looks worse since every monitor usually looks best at native res.

Anyways, try this:
1. Right click desktop, Screen Resolution
2. Go to Advanced Settings
3. Go to Monitor
4. Here you can set your refresh rate (I recommend setting it to highest possible value)
5. If you want to go higher than native, then uncheck the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" checkbox.
6. You should now see more resolutions available in "List all modes" dialog under "Adapters" tab in the same window.

I want to run my games at 1920x1080 becuase if i run them at 1366x768, for some reason, the refresh rate goes back to 42hz for some games and results to some really bad tearing. And I did not want to set my desktop resolution to 1920x1080 because it stretches edges beyond my screen that I cant see what are on the edges anymore, and if you can see this physically, running your desktop on 1920x1080 for a 1366x768 display just doesn't look good, but it looks very well for playing games. Sorry if my preferences seem a bit too strict, but I did try what you suggested, I ran my desktop at 1920x1080 and I can run games now at fullscreen 1920x1080, but... yeah... dont want my desktop to stretch :( but thanks alot for your help.

Oh, so you can run games at 1080p now?
Sorry, the List All Modes thing was what changed your desktop resolution :D
I have a 19 inch display and with native 1440*900 it's pretty bad and low on space :D So I also tried running it at 1920*1080 (only the desktop, I have weak GPU to run gaems at this res) ... but then it was unreadable lol.
