I did reset the settings from the bios. I assume that's the same thing.

try updating the BIOS.

Its the latest version already. It's an old board and is not getting any more updates.
The board is an Asus P5L 1394. The cpu is a Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800. Previously had an E6600. Replaced with X6800 because thats the best one supported by the motherboard.

Edit:
Oh i think i figured out why it's showing that error. The cpu i got (from ebay) is actually an Engineering sample (It was not advertised as such). And i read that they were removed from supported cpu's list and now bios doesn't recognize it. I read that it's actually illegal to sell those but it's probably ok now since they are super old, cheap and not a secret anymore.

I just wish there was a way to stop that error from appearing. Other than that it seems to work fine.

Return the CPU if not supported. What else can u do.
If it's getting those errors, it's not going to function properly even if the OS does somehow load, you get flooded with Errors/BSoD.

Actually it does work pretty well actually. It does show up in device manager and other programs. It's just a pre release version of a regular X6800. Maybe hotter and worse overclocker, but it does work fine at stock speeds. And i haven't tried overclocking yet so who knows maybe it not too bad either.

It's just that error that is bugging me, it just causes delay, because i have to wait for it to appear and skip it to continue loading windows.

Ahh OK, well that's good then.
Yes run it through a test with Prime95 for about an hour. Course it was a "used" CPU right, so it should've already had enough "testing" I suppose.

So yea the MB just doesn't recognize the build/device ID code, since it's an engineering sample revision, no biggy. If possible option in the BIOS, toggle the option to skip over such errors. But still keep an eye on boot ups, as that may also allow for SMART fails to be skipped. Depends on the board and how that's all handled.
