Look through the games ^ at cpu performance in the index then I believe you'll get why ppl are steering you to the i5 4690k.
As far as what AMD vs NVidia gpu it doesn't matter other than performance fitting your budget and or if you care about electrical power usage.
I'm all amd CPUs here but if I was to build a gaming pc today it would be an i5 4690k or the i7 variant but GPUs it doesn't matter just pick one that fits your needs/budget.
What ever is the best for the price. If intel/invidia is the best then do it but if you can find a amd configuration then that would be good too i supose.
But id rather pay more now then have to upgrade and pay more later. So if your thinking 'humm recomend i5 or i6?', just got with the better one. Im not saying tell me to get a Titan Z or anything. (you know what i mean right?)
im stuck on this :intel core i7-3770k 3.5ghz quad-core processor vs amd fx-9590 4.7ghz 8-core
i would go for the AMD. I mean it has 8 cores and 4.7ghz. thats 4 cores more then the i7 and 1.2 ghz more then the i7 too.
More reading that you can flip around ^ look at min fps and cinebench r10 single thread results.
The down side of the 9590 is the 220w to get 4.7ghz that's not equal but lesser per ghz than to an intel 4.7ghz, 9590 220w needs a high end water cooler $100+ to make it effective and the higher end am3+ 220w capable motherboard $180- $230.
The intel K cpus are also unlocked so you can get the higher ghz with lower power draw and a 212evo hsf $30ish paired with a more reasonably price $130ish max motherboard .
i7 has 4 cores but also has 8 threads ttl, i5 has 4 core and no threads, amd 8 core is 4 modules sharing 8 threads basically. Someone else will explain it better but that's the gist of it.
Ps, to also make it more clear for you intels single thread can process more almost double the amount of information as the amd counter part.
on paper the fx8-9 specs look good, but in use tehy are about half the speed when compared to intel i5/i7
whats your budget for the build?
do you need an os or accessoreis?
There's some parts to do a gut swap ^.
You can save some $ by dropping down to the i5 4690K and r9 290 non x.
Reuse all your other parts case, ram, hdd and so one.

The cheapest GTX970 I can find $309 ^ but it's your choice 970, 290 or 290x.
If you want a quick fix just do the psu and gpu now then take the time to look into cpus/motherboards later you don't have to do it all at once.
Ps, I haven't built a full pc for my self since the Duron days the case just gets new guts from time to time, I currently have an FX8350/280x in the same case I originally bought yearsssss ago..
I left memory and storage out. But that will give you a good base. I usually don't like to cheap out on a case or power supply. Those are basically the base for your build.
However, what's been said before, just a new power supply and video card will give your main performance increases for gaming. A case would just help save your parts from killing themselves. The refine r4 is a nice case to work in and very well built. It's also mid-atx and near silent.
the $150 board is overkill
you can get a good sli capable board for closer to $100
can get a r9 290x and have room for a ssd in the build too

and no i have an os (win 7 HP but im getting pro so i can use the other 16 gb of ram i got)
and no i dont need accessories (though im getting 2 new fans)
Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor
or
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor
i curently have 3.6 GHZ so idk if i want the i-5 (but then again its 3. ghz of AMD sooo idk)
What would you get? Im probably gonna stick with the Excellent one. It has what most of you are recomending. And for a good price.
Are there any setbacks on the Excellent one? It has an R9 290. Is that a problem?
gaming needs an pentium g -> i3 -> i5 -> i7
for gaming, amd fx cpus and apus fall in the i3 or core 2 range
I'd get the i5-4690K 3.5G (the benchmarks are nearly doubled over your current 3.6G APU)
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-vs-AMD-A8-5600K
No problems with an R9 290, just make sure you look at dimensions and get a large enough case with good air flow.
i5 4690 vs 4690k
what is better? While i looked up that the K can overclock better or something, i dont really think ill be overclocking.
And this is my current mobo- asus f2a55-m
Do i need a new one? If i dont need one then i wont get the Asus Z97-A mobo. But if you really strongly recomend a new one then i suppose ill get a new one.
