Computer detects TV monitor through hdmi but TV says "Not compatible with signal". Help!
Hello, steam community. So, I'm a little bit new to computer components (And technology in general) and I need some help in setting up my new monitor. I don't particuarly want 2 monitors since I have no room but I'm setting up the other one with my current monitor just to test if it'll work. Anyway, when I plug the TV into my computer via HDMI my computer automatically detects it as SHARP HDMI. However, when I look over to my TV monitor it says "Not compatible with this signal" even though I'm on the HDMI output. My GPU is a GTX 750 ti and I've gone to the Nvidia control panel but I can't find anything helpful. So, I came to post this hoping someone with experience with setting up these monitors would respond. One more thing that might be useful in aiding my solution. My Sharp TV resolution is 1920 x 1080, just in case that helps.

Thanks!

With any other Display connected and powered on, first ensure the Display is actually switched to the correct Input. As various Displays may allow multiple input connections, especially TVs which most of which offer multiple HDMI input ports.

In Windows, right click an empty desktop area and click on Screen Resolution. Then click the Detect button to ensure any actively connected displays are shown there. And configure each as needed. If your desktop is showing on one screen and not the other, select "Duplicate" for the multi-screen option in Screen Resolution section; which will then allow showing the same image across multiple displays. Once you are able to see your desktop on your secondary display, u can disconnect the primary display if that is your intension here. If the display does not show up in Windows, shutdown the system, connect any displays u wish, power them on, select the correct input, then power the system back on.
I've tried all of that. It still says "Not compatible with this signal". Any other solutions?
Can u take screenshots of what is showing as far as options in Windows?
Are u able to see the TV device being detects as Display #2 in Screen Resolution?
Did u select a resolution & refresh rate for this TV device, as per what it's specs allow for?
Some TVs may only support 24 or 30 Hz max and thus u may need to apply that in Windows for it to display a picture.
Yes, I can see the display as #2 in the Screen Resolution. The default resolution for the TV is 1920x1080 and it's 30 Hz. As for the computer monitor, the resolution is 1280x1024 and its 75 Hz max. Is this a confliction? Also, probably more helpful stuff, when I turn on my computer the TV monitor shows a display with the "Starting Windows" logo for about 7 seconds in an odd red color and then goes back to "Not compatible with this signal". At least I think that means the cable is okay, does it? So, that may be helpful for you.
In this case, then u can not duplicate the screen and that would be an issue to some extent possibly, yes.

Try the "Extend" option for Display #2 (TV)

With your display mode changed to Extend, you should then be able to change Res & Refresh for each display, independant of one another.

Or try this: shut down the system so it powers off; disconnect the Monitor and only connect the TV. Then power on the system.

If you have a system that has an onboard GPU (display ports of any kind on the motherboard i/o) please ensure u are connecting any displays to your dedicated GPU card (750 Ti).

Once again, I've tried all of this. When I just connect the TV via HDMI to the computer and start it up, the tv shows the "Starting Windows" logo in an odd red color for about 7-8 seconds and then goes back to the "Not compatible with this signal" screen. I've just tried to connect the TV to the computer using the VGI cable and that seems to work but not with the HDMI for some reason. What does this mean? Does this mean that my HDMI on my TV may be broken? I hope not. Although I can use the VGI cable with my TV, I would like to use the HDMI more to get the full resolution and to increase my gaming experience. Any other suggestions with all the information that I've given you? Oh, and thank you for all you help. ;)
If it's an odd red color (or any solid or rainbox effects); then I highly suspect it being either Bad HDMI Cable; or the Cable is not fully seated into the port on both TV & GPU.

Be careful with HDMI cables of any kind, if u bend them too much on the ends, it can easily break/sever the wire connections within the cable. Avoid crimps and/or any forceable tight bends.

Okay, well, thank you so much for your help. I guess my HDMI cable is the problem. I'll find a new one soon. Have a nice night. :pleased:
Yes if VGA cable works fine, try that. However it will not be as good. As the picture will fail to align with the screen 100% and to address that upon any res/refresh changes, u need to either go into TV Menu (or use Remote) and select "Auto Align Screen" (wording should be something like this) in order to re-align an analog screen properly as a means of getting the picture to fit the screen borders.
