Game Freezes And Stutters When I Try to Use my Mic in Source Engine Games

I have been playing games like Team Fortress 2 and Garry's mod but I can never hit the mic key and if I do the game stutters in place for a few seconds (10) before it stops and allows me to use my microphone. It even does it again if I let off of the mic key for a minute or so then hit it again.

I was wondering if I can get any help with this at all, it gets pretty annoying when i'm trying to tell someone to do something or alert my team of anything at all. I have an Alienware X51 desktop.

Tell me if this is in the wrong subforum and I will move it.

Driver issue is a possiblity.

Can you provide any specific data on what mic you're using, hardware specs and such?
Have you cleaned out the computer?
How about your internet connection? VOIP does require use of the bandwidth to send data - is your connection slow?

Why not setup your mic to automatically send info when you talk, instead of using a button? As long as your not a real heavy breather or obnoxious background noise, this shouldn't be an issue.
