fitting in the board does not mean the board can properly power the cpu
The Radeon 7870 which I have is very good performance for the price you can get it for now especially on ebay. It's been considered a good budget card for quite some time now. However the R9 270, and the R9 280 are the newer product lines so you might just want to roll with that.
If you want a good general overview on performance comparisons without being hit with information overload, this site link below is one I always use. I ignore the price column and just do my own research in that regard along with more detailed research once I narrow it down to 4 video cards or so.
If you are buying brand new imo you want to spend more than 100, I would bump it up to the $150.00 range. Now if you're willing to go used on EBay that gives you more options. You can do a search string on Ebay that searches for multiple video cards at once and then you just filter it by lowest ptice and then go from there.
You also need to make sure your power supply has the correct power connecters you need. As far as I know a lot of cards now need 2 75W PCI express power connectors. I know mine does, as well as the newer R9 270's and so on.
