how to setup a 144Hz monitor?
hey guys, I posted a topic 2 month ago about buying a PC and I got. My build:

i7 4770
Gainward GTX 970
16GB DDR3
120 SSD
1T HDD

So for this build I wanted to buy myself a nice 144Hz monitor and I hope the question is not stupid or something but I am new to PC gaming and I didn't understand how to setup the monitor.

The best cable to use is the Display Port right? But I saw that people use a lot of cables to connect a 144Hz monitor to a PC so which do I have to take?
The manual of the monitor actually says:

1. DVI Dual Link
2. HDMI cable
3. Display Port
4. USB Cable

Do I have to connect all of the to the PC or are this just different options to connect it? Furthermore I red you can change between the single modes like Display Port and HDMI if you have a PC and a Playstation for example connected to the monitor so I am quite confused...

For the right way of using this 144Hz monitor, what do I have to connect to my PC??
ALL 4 listed cables? Or ONLY Display Port?

Thanks for the help, see you all in CS-GO ;)

Display Port is the only cable type that will let you ultilize 144Hz.

You need just one cable. For 144 Hz monitor either Display Port or DVI-D.

dp, and power are all that is needed

usb if the monitor has usb hub or usb sound card on it
but the sound card on the mobo will be better than any usb sound solution

DP or dual-link DVI should both fine. If it's a G-Sync monitor, you need DP.
Plug monitor into one of those, console into HDMI, and switch which input to view through the monitor's OSD settings.

You use only one connection to the monitor ONLY - using more than one will overheat, then damage it.

Display Port is your best option.
DVI or HDMI is just as fine to use though too.

Install your monitor drivers, if available.
Install your latest graphic card drivers from Nvidia.

Right-click desktop > Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings

Adapter Type show label your graphics card correctly. Set resolution to desired or recommended settings.

Click on Monitor tab, it should label your monitor name and connection type. Under monitor settings you will find Screen refresh rate. Hide modes that cannot display (if required) and select the highest available (120 or 144 Hertz). Apply.

Note: G-Sync will most likely use 120Hz, not 144Hz. 144Hz isn't really required or noticable unless using 3D, which is was originally designed for and the reason most high-end gaming monitors will auto support/toggle between both.

Use DisplayPort for 144Hz via gaming PC.

You could connect another PC to it if need be, for that use DVI.
If you want to connect a game console to it, use HDMI.

If the monitor did not come with a DisplayPort cable, then I would suggest one of these:
