CPU Cooler
Just looking for any feedback on CPU Coolers.

My CPU is an i5-4690K, which I will be over clocking.

I was looking at either a Corsair H100i or a Corsair H55. For ensuring my CPU temperatures stay low when OC, should I go with water-cooling or is there something else that would be just as effective but not run me $99 like the H100i. Appreciate any feedback.

What case do you have?

Corsair 400R ATX mid tower. reviews said good airflow, but if you have a better selection by all means lay it on me.

You can fit Corsair H100i in 400R case, H105 has thicker radiator and can have problems with some motherboards.
H55 is pretty much useless, one fan water coolers are no better then good air cooler like Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

If you are happy with around 4.2-4.3 Ghz overclock then Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.
If you want bigger overclock then Corsair H100i.

h55 will be about the same cooling ability of a 212evo and cost twice as much
id go with a h105, same price as h100i without the pump and software issues

280L isn't an option, can't fit a radt that size in a 400R. His best options are the H105, 240M, or a large air cooler.

Air coolers are cheap and efficient. A good one is around $50. Only $100+ CLCs will beat the best air coolers which are at most $90.

silver arrow and d14 can hang with the 240mm rad wc units

but they are massive

If you can I would suggest sticking to an air cooling solution. I had a thermaltake water 2.0 for 2 years which has now died and had to go back to a coolermaster hyper tx3 i had installed previously on a q6600 cpu, I got the thermaltake after upgrading to an i7 3770 and the temps were horrible considering.
For example thermaltake 2.0 in gta v had temps in excess of 60c. since putting the much cheaper and (i thought anyway) redundant hyper tx3 back into my system, the temp maxs out around 43c in gta v.
Its probably just that it was thermaltake but i have been put off aio water cooling forever now.

Also in prime 95 - thermaltake water 2.0 = 65 - 75c
coolermaster hyper tx3 = 45 - 60c

Really all i think im saying is if you go an aio closed loop dont ever, ever get a thermaltake one, and even then most others will only last ~2 years

PS idle temps on hyper tx3 are 17 - 25c

hilarious really
