Second monitor flickering on display port to VGA converter
I bought a converter and it worked fine the first few days.

Now it's flickering and that's only because I propped the plug a certain way...otherwise it doesn't really turn on at all.

Probably the plug/connector not inserted just right, or too much tension and interfering with giving a good connection. Is DisplayPort all it has? Why wouldn't u just use the DVI-to-VGA adapter that GPUs come with; again if it has a DVI port.

dv-vga adapter may need power, some use usb for 5+v
others may have an ac power adapter
Running 3 monitors, both dvi will be taken.

This is why I made sure any screen I buy had DVI + DisplayPort; I don't like HDMI
And getting newer GPUs with no less then 3x Display Ports, like GTX 980
Well I got 3 brand new monitors for free so.....

then pick up a dp-dvi adapter

How would that help? 2 monitors are DVI, one is VGA..

a new monitor should have a dvi port
I'm not buying a new monitor. I have 3 brand new ones.

I have one monitor over displayport and I recently got another that is vga, so I kinda want to figure this out

displays are cheap now
replace it

https://pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#i=46,50&sort=price&page=1

dp uses 3.3v signal, hdmi/vga/dvi use 5v signal
it needs to be boosted by the converter

vga and dvi-a are analog
converting digital / analog takes time since it needs to know the entire frame before converting it
if the converter is not working it needs to be replaced (or it needs external power from usb)

It's typically caused by interference. Try to move the cable away from other electronic devices as much as possible.

You can use a thicker VGA cable with built in ferrite rings which can help, or you can also try attaching ferrite rings to each end of the VGA cable yourself (you can get snap on ones).
