Wireless USB adapter for 360 controller = lack of vibration in certain games.
As the title says, I purchased the top-rated wireless adapter off of Amazon.com, and it works great for most things, controls and vibration work flawlessly, but for some reason in certain games like Spelunky and Castle Crashers (they do support vibration effects, btw), the controls work fine, but I get no vibration effects, even with the option toggled on. I'm using a standard wireless 360 controller (packed in with my slim 360) and the latest drivers from Microsoft's site.

The game dictates that; not the Microsoft controller/software.

Depends what the game means by "vibration". Most games rarely use it much except as a "player que/alert" kind of a thing. U really don't want it anyways on Wireless cause that means the batteries wont' last as long.

is it a ms branded reciever?

or other brand?

if its a ms branded one, they always work, and its the game setting is set to vibrate

if its an off brand reciever, make sure you installed the correct drivers for it

It's an off-brand, the "best seller"/top rated one available on Amazon. There is no brand/company on the receiver itself and the included drivers on the minidisc did not work, so I manually chose "wireless 360 receiver" and downloaded the official driver. To my knowledge, Amazon wasn't selling an "official" wireless receiver for the PC, I did not know one existed. Regardless, everything works fine for most games, even smaller indie titles, but for some reason the odd game just doesn't want to provide rumble effects.

Return the receiver and get an official Microsoft one. The china-knock-offs DO NOT work right.

I'll deal with the odd game not supporting rumble for $10, thank you, and good luck finding an "official" adapter on Amazon, even the purported "genuine" adapter they're selling. looks like a cheap knockoff due to the packaging, lack of holosticker etc. I don't think this problem is isolated to copies either, as I read a thread for one of the splinter cell games, and someone with the official adapter was having difficulty with aiming/rumble effects, needing to use xbox360ce as a workaround (which I've tried to no avail here). So far on my win 7 machine, other than the lack of rumble in a few of my games that support it (though it does seem to work for most), this thing has been rock solid with the official drivers, with no perceptible control lag, no deadzone issues etc.

There is no hologram sticker on the Microsoft Receivers, unlike their Controllers. They should have though IMHO as it's hard to fake properly. Amazon can return your item at their cost. I've had to do it before.

The official one is here for Amazon.com (US)

Have purchased over 12 of these from them. No issues what-so-ever.

The reason for this packaging though is due to it being an OEM product packaging so-to-speak. As the receivers usually would be bundled with a Wireless Controller as part of the product named "Microsoft Xbox360 Wireless Controller and Receiver for Windows PC"

But again if u have a 360 compatable controller, or wish to buy a Limited Edition kind, or something of that sort, then of course all u then need is a 360 Wireless USB Receiver.

The knock-off "generic" version usually won't have any real looking markings on them, or may say "Xbox 360" instead of "Microsoft"

I was hoping to find some kind of workaround, but I personally don't think it's worth the bother of sending it back over this very minor issue with relatively few games, as I said, other than the lack of rumble in 2/3 games I've tried, it works just fine.

I'd test the Wireless Range and also if it loses connection during games too.
Those are common factors the knock-off receivers tend to have.
But yea if it works for u, sure why not keep it.

or if you have a wired controller, try that
