Depends what the game means by "vibration". Most games rarely use it much except as a "player que/alert" kind of a thing. U really don't want it anyways on Wireless cause that means the batteries wont' last as long.

or other brand?

if its a ms branded one, they always work, and its the game setting is set to vibrate
if its an off brand reciever, make sure you installed the correct drivers for it
I'll deal with the odd game not supporting rumble for $10, thank you, and good luck finding an "official" adapter on Amazon, even the purported "genuine" adapter they're selling. looks like a cheap knockoff due to the packaging, lack of holosticker etc. I don't think this problem is isolated to copies either, as I read a thread for one of the splinter cell games, and someone with the official adapter was having difficulty with aiming/rumble effects, needing to use xbox360ce as a workaround (which I've tried to no avail here). So far on my win 7 machine, other than the lack of rumble in a few of my games that support it (though it does seem to work for most), this thing has been rock solid with the official drivers, with no perceptible control lag, no deadzone issues etc.
The official one is here for Amazon.com (US)

Have purchased over 12 of these from them. No issues what-so-ever.
The reason for this packaging though is due to it being an OEM product packaging so-to-speak. As the receivers usually would be bundled with a Wireless Controller as part of the product named "Microsoft Xbox360 Wireless Controller and Receiver for Windows PC"
But again if u have a 360 compatable controller, or wish to buy a Limited Edition kind, or something of that sort, then of course all u then need is a 360 Wireless USB Receiver.
The knock-off "generic" version usually won't have any real looking markings on them, or may say "Xbox 360" instead of "Microsoft"
Those are common factors the knock-off receivers tend to have.
But yea if it works for u, sure why not keep it.
