24H2 update not showing up for Windows 11. Why?
Hi.
I want to update now to version 24H2 for Windows 11, but this update do not show up anymore!
I got offered this update about 6 months ago, but didn't install it, because it had some bugs back then.
Now, I only get updates for 23H2 (the current build installed), and no sign of 24H2 update anymore.
What can I do to get 24H2 update?
I read that Windows Install Assistant can be of help, but I tried it and it started to download Windows 11 from scratch, so I aborted.
I only want to update my Windows 11, not reinstall it.
Thanks for any advice!

Yes, OP, use the Win11 Installation Assistant.

Here is a breakdown of everything:

Win11 Update 24H2 can have an issue with updating if you rollback the OS before December 2024, as stated on the MS website.

If you have not caused this issue, OP, then your system may have been put on the MS "Safe Guard" list and the update will not be available until solutions to those issues are found.

This update had a major rollout in May 2024 for all users, excluding safe guards.

Here is the official list of issues found with Win11 Update 24H2:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2

In which equals 5 outstanding issues, lower than any other major update for this OS.

Reinstalling while keeping folders and files through the Win11 Media Installation Assistant will result in updating to the current OS build which is Win11 24H2 (no Win key is needed as this method does not remove the Win11 digital OS key if used on the same system):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

Unless your system is being safe guarded by MS, or if you have Win Pro and disallowing updates through Group Policy which also shows up for IT departments who do the same.

And as always, create a Restore Point prior to using Installation Assistant for proper safety netting (rollback) purposes.

And just to put this out there, the Windows Installation Assistant is only used on the system you are updating which has two options: to save all your files and folders or clean wipe.

TBH, I don't care about Windows updates and their version; I just set it to update after changing Windows.

But here are some tips:

1. Maybe you should check the beta participant option in Windows settings.

2. Change your timezone to USA or something, then refresh the update again.

3. Sign in to your Microsoft account in Windows, then try again.

There are some options in group policy as well but I don't think they work here, they are useful mostly for windows servers.
Thanks for the reply. I tried these tips. Unfortunately none of them worked.
I am currently also searching the internet for possible solutions, and I hope to find a way to solve this sooner or later.
If you think of something else, please let me know.

Depends on HOW you disabled the windows 24H2 updates.

Did you disable it using the "remind me later, and postpone updates by x weeks", or did you use regedit or GPO?

Just came to my mind right now that maybe the ISO file you have installed Windows on your machine with was too old, and 24H2 is a major version that needs a newer ISO.

So, download the latest ISO and mount it on a USB flash drive with Rufus; after a clean installation, let the update begin. This should work.

You could just run the ISO in windows itself and let it do an inplace upgrade.

There is no reason to put it on a bootable USB stick.

Thanks for this, but I do not understand.
My computer was preinstalled with Windows 11, so I don't know anything about an ISO file.
I'm not that technical, and I was hoping for a solution where I can get the update coming in the regular way.
If that's not possible, I need some more information about how to proceed, because I do not understand how to do this, based on what you wrote.
Sorry for this.

Hi. I just came home from work and saw your reply.
I disabled the update by letting it remind me later if I remember correctly, and after that I got regular updates for 23H2 only.

The updates for 23H2 are still coming, but no sign of 24H2.
I will try again soon. I still hope the update will show up sooner or later.

I have been searching the internet also, as I wrote, but some solutions are very technical, and I am not that technical. Still hope to find a solution. It's a good sign that updates for 23H2 are still coming in, but I find it strange that the update for 24H2 won't show up.

What happens if I run the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from Microsoft?
Will it update to 24H2 or will it reinstall Windows completely?
I tried it earlier, but it looked like it was starting to download the complete Windows 11 again, so I aborted.
Is it safe to let it run and download everything?
Will I keep all my files and settings?
I have no experience with this Microsoft Installation Assistant, but read several places that it might fix my problem with upgrading to 24H2 version of Windows 11.
Anyone tried this method, and is it safe (do I get to keep everything on my computer)?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It worked. I have 24H2 now. Thanks again for the help.

No problem, usually that Installation Assistant, when online and not defunct, will push the newest updates on the system far easier then the ISO.

It is also a part of Windows Fresh Start or Windows PC Reset which allows you to either keep files or do a Fresh Install (basically it drives from that same URL but in a more direct fashion for consumer friendliness - also found in the Win10/11 Start menu < Reset PC).

I hope 24H2 works well for you but there are about 5 outstanding issues (unlike 23H2 which had an eye boggling 25+ issues which at least 8 are still outstanding).

It may come around like Win10 update 2004 where, that issue was only rectified by a Clean Installation after said 2004 update and even Microsoft had to push a hardcore workaround for that one. Best to install Win10 after that 2020 (or was it 2021) update 2004.

This Update 23H2 to 24H2 on Win11 is much like that outstanding system breaking issue on Win10 and it would be best to remain cautious of further issues with the OS.

Win11 is only 4 years old and that major issue on Win10 came about after it reach 5 or 6, so remain vigilant and always remember Linux is used for hardware (and some software) troubleshooting.

I have seen hardware fail on Windows yet work fine on Linux, so that is that.
