USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports not working after Windows 11 reinstall (MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI) — SOLVED
After reinstalling Windows 11, I ran into an issue where the USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports on my MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI motherboard stopped working. Any device I plugged into them wasn't recognized, and I got an error in Device Manager:
"Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

Notably:

1. USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and the front panel Gen 1 ports worked perfectly fine.

2. I had updated all drivers, including the AMD chipset drivers and BIOS.

3. BIOS settings for USB were correct, and I had disabled USB power-saving features in Windows.

4. Reinstalling USB drivers and resetting them via Device Manager didn’t help.

What finally fixed it was something really simple (Thanks to the ChatGPT): clearing ACPI and hardware config cache.

Here’s what I did:

1. Shut down the PC completely.

2. Unplugged the power cable from the PSU.

3. Held the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.

4. Left the system unplugged for about 10 minutes, then turned it back on.

After that, all the USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports started working again, and the error in Device Manager disappeared.

Apparently, this issue was caused by a corrupted or stuck ACPI/hardware initialization cache that wasn’t cleared during the Windows reinstall — something that a simple power cycle with full discharge managed to fix.

Hope this helps someone and saves hours of troubleshooting !

Nice catch.

Try installing the motherboard chipset drivers.

I'm glad you solved the problem. Now chuck Windows 11 and install Windows 10.

Why? Windows 10 support ends in October this year.

Yes? That doesn't mean it suddenly stops working.

I'm typing this on a Windows 7 system, by the way.

Both games and Steam are going to support 10 for many years.
