Is it normal for my cpu to have a heart attack when I only have steam and 1 tab of opera gx open?
I have a amd ryzen 9800x3d cpu and was wondering if it's normal when I open opera my cpu spikes up to 100%

how many addons and extensions does the browser have installed?
try changing its home/start page to about:blank
It might hit 100% for a brief moment so what. Tbis doesn't hurt or interfere with anything

Well I wasn't sure because i tried playing elden ring on my PC and my cpu would hit 100% and start freezing. I just assumed it was the game because everyone had the same issue that I had so I refunded it. But when I saw my cpu hitting 100% when I open opera I started to think it was my cpu that had an issue. But I notice now that whenever I open any software it spikes for half a second then goes back down. I assume that's normal 🤷‍♂️

windows update grabs generic drivers, not specific to each board

Hmm, so what do I do then?
If a game is pushing that CPU to max you have something configured in BIOS or OS all wrong

Disable OS wide the setting that allows WU to fetch optional updates such as Drivers.

Disable Core Isolation and Controlled Folders in Defender.

Install all the drivers yourself. Get the drivers from the Motherboard maker. Get any Intel, AMD or NVIDIA drivers from them, from their sites

Make sure your have a BIOS version that actually supports your CPU. In other words, check for a BIOS update.

9800X3D and other AMD CPUs will run in COMPAT mode until you update the BIOS if it is not supported by your motherboard. That means that literally anything can happy or result in mysterious bugs that can't be pinpointed.

Also listen to the advice about drivers above.

One more important thing: only Windows 11 and later has full support for Ryzen 7000 and greater officially; it's the same thing for Intel 12000+ and if you updated to the latest edition of Windows, you need to update your chipset drivers for AMD and make sure you are running a recent BIOS version or you may encounter instability.

Just update to most recent non-Beta BIOS Version. That version would include fixes from all the previous ones

I checked for a BIOS update on my motherboard (Gigabyte B850 gaming wifi 6) and the latest is F3 but then I got to BIOS it also says F3b. And it suggests that I update my chipset which I already did.

With Gigabyte, be careful as they might have many revisions and the REV version # is very important in regards to going to the correct MB Support website and getting the correct files for your board.
