Be Quiet! SYSTEM POWER 10U is it a ticking time bomb?

I bought a new PC a few weeks ago, I was lazy and decided to buy all the parts from one store. A month ago they lacked a couple of components I wanted so I decided to wait until they had all of them in stock which was a bad idea, a couple of weeks after that I decided to build a PC with what they had in stock before prices keep going up.

I wanted to buy a 650 w - 80 Plus gold but it appears they were out of stock and with no plans to adquire more in the near future. The store people advice me to buy a 750 w PSU instead since 650 w is kinda limited if I wanted to do upgrades in the future.

I decided to buy a Be Quiet! SYSTEM POWER 10U - 750W Plus Bronze it is not modular which I hate but it looked ok other than the fan. For my Ryzen 5 9600x with an 3060 TI it would do perfectly fine, with options to support a more powerful CPU and GPU in the future. Besides I did a 10 sec Google search and the one problem I saw was cheap fan but most of the info was about the version that does not have an U at the end and I did not checked that data.

The problem is I decided to do some proper research about the PSU after I got the PC and the results where kind of alarming specially looking at the SPL's PSU tier list. The thing is most of the information was about the SYSTEM POWER 10 (without the U). So I do not know if there is anything different from the regular System Power 10 to the U version and if I should hurry up to replace it or maybe either version is fine and I can chill until I get a new CPU/GPU.

it depends on what the risk is. if the power supply is at risk of burning out without harming anything else you can just wait until it fries. if however it is at risk of catching fire, then you should replace it. either way you should either unplug it or switch it off when not in use. otherwise your pc could start on its own as a safeguard. i have personally never had a power supply fry on me but, i once had to clean the fan, because it was dirty(full of dust) and was making a lot o noise. though i had to take the fan out and in again, because i inserted it the wrong way.

From what I can see the U was just added for the US market, it's not actually a different power supply, so anything that's said about the non u version is applicable.

does the store have other options for a 650+w psu?

it should be ok, its just thats its a very old psu design
if it was made around 2005-2010, it may just be bad caps

Ahh those are some terrible news then, what I shame I knew that the SYSTEM POWER 9 where decent PSU it appears the quality went down quite a bit with their latest gen.

Is not an old PSU design, it's from 2023 (actually from 2022 if they did nothing at all going from System Power 10 to System Power 10U). I don't think my PSU is going to die soon and kill my PC, but comments from their users about having 1 tiny big problem like a bad power surge and the computer dying (I have an UPS) and "terrible ripple protection" sounds kinda bad (I do not know what ripple protection is though).

a power surge might damage your motherboard. though likely just that. though it is up to you wether you want to risk it.

I don't waste my time with PSUs that lack 2x 8pin EPS connectors + 4x 8pin GPU connectors; so around 750-850 watts minimum, either Gold or Platinum. You can often buy 850W Gold models Online for around $89-109

For future references, I experienced a really bad power surge in my area. Multiple reports of electronics getting permanently damaged, my PC has an UPS but the PC still shut down, it is pretty much working without problems so the System Power 10 U did fine in such event.

I think as long as you treat like it had max 650 W is an ok PSU, but I got a replecement and I don't recommend buying it.

You will want a 750W minimum anyways because of todays higher CPU + GPU power requirements; plus 750-850 minimum is what is required in order to have enough power connections for EPS + GPU. 650W and lower usually are never going to have 2x 4+4pin EPS connections, or 4x 6+2 GPU connections.
