Steam Changing My Display Res.
Ever since I downloaded the C&C Remastered Collection, when Steam starts it changes my display res. to 640x480 res. I did a clean reboot to see what might be the problem and it was Steam. I got rid of everything C&C and even went through the registry and removed lines that had to do with C&C. I DID EVERYTHING. Updated everything I could update, even through the mfg. website. I don't get it. But apparently with Windows 11, I am not the only one who has this issue, but haven't found a good solution outside of a factory reset. Since I now only play MGS5, I can keep Steam from starting at startup and just use it when I desire to play MSG5. Just has been a real hassle.

Check the Compatibility tab for Steam.exe and Steamwebhelper.exe. It's possible a compatibility setting may have accidentally been set.

If some program changes your display resolution, right click on your desktop. Select "Display settings". Under "Scale & layout", click on "Display resolution". Set it to the recommended value. No need to go through steps like a factory reset.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I wonder if this is a time to turn off 'full-screen optimization' which are supposed to be removed already on Win11 but any time this has happened to me apart from the language changing, it was always the game settings and then one time I could not change it in game only on the game configuration file as the screen was way off.

You can also force specific resolutions in the Steam Library < Game < Properties < General "Launch Parameters".

Those settings only apply to Source Engine games and not everything.

Also, turning off full screen optimizations means that your system goes into exclusive fullscreen mode instead of the hybrid mode introduced in Windows 10.

Hey Crashed, you nailed it dude. I checked the Steam.exe compatibility and sure enough...640x480. I double checked by exited and restarting Steam and now no problems. Thanks dude. I feel rather sheepish that I never thought of checking the compatibility at the source. So glad that is over. This old dog learned a new trick.

This trick dates back as long as Windows has had a Compatibility tab. I think it was meant for really ancient games from the Windows 3.x and early Windows 95 days.
