I finally installed Windows 10 and I hate it!

- Start Menu -

One thing I do in Windows 7 is customize my Start Menu. I have a few folders that I like to group the shortcuts into. In Windows 10 these folders don't appear until something is placed in them. So no organizing by dragging.

In Windows 7 I can "Open" and "Open All Users" for the Start Menu. Not so in Windows 10. I have to know the address of the folders and navigate there.

So I went to the folders to move the shortcuts around and found another issue. All shortcuts from the sub folders appear in the top level folder I sorted them into. So if I move several folders for different programs the shortcuts are no longer divided by program in the Start Menu.

In Windows 7 I can right-click and copy a shortcut in the Start Menu. In Windows 10 I can "Open File Location" then make a new shortcut, or locate the Start Menu folders, but I can't directly copy the shortcut from the menu.

- Freezing And Restarts -

While installing the Nvidia driver the computer froze and restarted a few minutes later.

While installing the software for my mouse the computer froze and restarted a few minutes later.

During Windows Update the computer froze and restarted a few minutes later.

If I open Device Manager and scan for hardware changes the computer freezes and restarts a few minutes later.

It turns out Windows 10 is incompatible with DVD drives. Once I disconnected the SATA cable I could install the drivers for other hardware.

- Defender keeps getting in the way -

When I work with batch files I use CMDOW to position the command window. Defender blocks and then quarantines CMDOW, even after I turned off Real Time Protection.

- Indeterminacy Principle Solid State Drive -

I have 3 SSDs I'm using; My old Windows 7 install, my new Windows 10 install, and a drive I'm using to transfer files between them. When I add files to the 3rd drive the other OS doesn't see the new files until I run a check disk. It seems either OS is doing strange things with the file system that the other OS doesn't understand.

- I broke it -

Another program I use is Symantec Workspace Virtualization. This allows me to install programs and delete the layer without relying on uninstall. I can see a summary of registry entries. For games installed in a layer I can find the save file location. Or if I still don't know what the save file is it must be in the User-Specific space so I just make a copy of that as a backup save.

When I installed SWV the Start Menu wouldn't open anymore. Windows said it would fix it the next time I log in. I can no longer log into the user profile and will be starting over with a new install of Windows.

Update your Chipset Driver, .Net, Cumulative Update, and you should have your disk drive using GPT not MBR.

Turn off Fast Boot/Fast Startup.

Lower your MS Defender Security option.

Use the "High Performance" Power Profile.

I can debunk your allegations all day, hun.

The one thing I will say I hate about WIn8.1/10/11 is the new Runtime Brokers (Runtime Borkers) which Win7 did not have to deal with, so there are indeed a FEW THINGS wrong with Win10, but it is not too bad (better than Win11 by far, imo).

also nividia driver atm has a bug wich can cause crashes so i advice installed the december 5th driver

Make sure you do a complete clean install of Win10 to a blank or wiped drive. So the drive gets formatted as GPT, not MBR. Sometimes you can convert the MBR to GPT during the install, but not always.

Stop using and relying on the Start Menu, period.

Use these instead...

WINKEY+E (File Explorer / Explorer.exe) which you should have been doing already since Win95 days

Once you bring up File Explorer, find Control Panel > right click > open in new window. Now pin this to taskbar. There now you have easy access to Classic Control Panel.

Make yourself a GodMode folder > Make New Folder. Rename it as
(.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Learn the Win10 shortcuts for WINKEY and others; makes navigation and such very easy.

The right click of the start menu Windows Logo is actually more important and useful then the actual Start Menu itself with its silly useless shortcuts. Probably the only other useful need there is the Microsoft Store. You will need that and you will need to launch that and check for updates every so often. You do not need a Microsoft account at all to use it for the basics.

most of this literally is user error guess you also never installed a proper virusscaner because if you did you would be familiar with exclusion lists

- open windows defender
- navigate to virus & threat protection
- click on "Manage Settings" under virus & threat protection settings
- scroll down and click "add or remove exclusions" under exlusions
- press the + add an exclusion then select if its a file or folder and navigate to what you want excluded done it will no longer scan the files

hardware issues are also not something to blame windows for the manufacturers are responsible for the drivers if the hardware is to old and the manufacturer does not make newer drivers then its a rip annoying yes but not a os level issue

also the last one the software you use likely is like revo unistaller these types of software are very aggressive and you need to read to use them safely if you do not know if something is a dynamic library then do not remove it because the program said to do so

Step 1.... Don't fight it. Let it do its thing, that includes drivers and windows update. While its updating try not to do much and include windows update drivers.

I you want to use Win10/11, but you want to have a start menu like in Win7, then you can use one of these programs:

They are all commercial, bu probably there also are freeware alternatives for Start Menu.

vistart is free. it gives you a start meny like the one in windows 7. i use it both in windows 8.1 and 10. it also works in windows 7, though it only helps in the event that the start menu breaks down(in windows 7 that is). in windows 8.1 and 10 it is more useful.

Try installing only pre-requisites and necessary stuff first instead of installing whatever "mouse software" you got going on because for all you know that could what's causing the instability. Also, just because they worked fine for Windows 7 the entire time, doesn't mean it's designed to work well on Windows 10. You might need to find some alternatives.

Try Openshell for a Windows 10 start menu replacement.

Windows 10 works just fine with dvd drives and blu-ray drives I might add. I've never had an issue with these things and still use them in all my pcs.

Run your .exe of CMDOW through Virustotal. How many other antiviruses detect something in it?

Where did you get your ISO. Is it legit? If so did you do a clean install? If not do that.


Also try looking for an alternative for that Symantec program. What exactly do you need it for? Sandboxie might be able to help you.

my windows 10 desktop have a disc drive so, i can confirm that they work in windows 10. blu-ray is not so simple, as the producer of the pc needs to supply software to play blu-rays.
