Nvidia gaming GPUs won't exist in 7 - 10 years time, leaving only AMD and Intel as options.
A lot of people think this won't happen because Nvidia has been a gaming GPU company since its inception, except now the gaming arm of Nvidia makes up just 15% of their entire revenue. And what do they get for it? People complaining, demanding more power, lower prices, more availability among other things.

It's just not worth it for them to dedicate resources and developers to something that only generates 15% profit over their AI arm which produces the other 85%. At least with their AI sales they're selling to companies so don't have to contend with unhappy retail consumer gamers like us.

In 2015 their gaming GPU arm accounted for 88% of all their revenue and has been decreasing year on year ever since. Give it another 7 - 10 years and profit from GPUs will be so low and so much hassle I really believe they will discontinue the department.

It's not like Amazon with kindle for example. Kindle just exists in a state of consistence. It doesn't need innovation or upgrading or anything. It's such a low cost low resource product.

But why would you spend so much resources on trying to pump out the next best gaming GPU for a bunch of gamers who don't appreciate it, moan and complain about the price and in return you effectively make pennies of profit compared to your other department?

So yeah this is my guess at what will happen. Nvidia will switch 100% to AI and AMD will fill the gaming void left by Nvidia and Intel will take AMDs place as the beta male.

But until we get a good 4 or 5 real GPU competitors in this space, we're never going to receive value for money products from these clowns. I'd love to see Google and Meta get in on the gaming GPU space but I don't see anything like that happening at least for now.

Just wait and see. AI bubble will burst. Some companies are cancelling their plans for new AI data centers. Gaming will always exist, like cinemas didn't disappear with home video. Wait and see. It's interesting time.

You don't really use consumer GPUs for AI data centers; that's what H200 and H800 are for.

Even a room full of 4090s is no match for a just a couple H800 GPUs for AI and similar things.

Of course not, but they compete on production and development capacities. You cant have everything at the same time.

Really? 3 of the 4 cinemas in my city have closed... And the stock market AI bubble may very well burst but AI as a technology is only going to increase, dramatically so in fact in my opinion.

I know, which is why I said they're probably not going to bother with gaming GPUs because it's low profit high resource and your customers just complain anyway.

Much better to focus on AI GPUs for company customers and leave us gamers to ourselves. Consoles don't even use Nvidia anyway they use AMD.

Sorry to tell you this all of them will move to ai and crypto for those sell more units gamers simply have lower purchasing power compared to ai and crypto

And still not one person is talking about subscription controlled, cloud-based GPU's which are the future of gaming.

Doesn't really matter where they make most of their money, or if their customers complain. As long as customers are opening their wallets, why ditch a good side-hustle?

All you have to do is expand operations.

Biggest problem currently is that silicon for GPUs is limited resource and lion`s share from it goes to AI tech now leaving very limited production capacity to gaming GPUs.

your basing this off of a new product everybody wants on the band wagon like all new
products it will deflate and things will return to normal.nvidia knows this thats why they are feeding the frenzy.many of these corps / co are trying to capitalize on the trend many will
fail and nvidia will return to its bread and butter.

as far as complaining thats what this gen lives on.the real complaining will start as they
become part of the work force and find their indoctrinated education is worth zero in
the real world.

It's not just a new product... Every iteration since the GTX 1080 has been extremely low available with high prices and mediocre performance for all except the top card. 7 years there's been shafting us for with every release.

The last genuinely good value for money card Nvidia released was the 1080ti. I'm not saying the 4080 / 4090 / 5080 / 5090 are are not good cards, but the value for money on them is diabolical.

Back in 2017 you could build a really solid gaming PC with the best GPU for $2,000, now just the GPU costs $2,000, and then it needs replacing 4 years later just to keep up the newest games.

You're assuming it hasn't already. If Windows 12, which will have forced AI integration and data collection, doesn't work then the AI party is over.

If courts allow the lawsuits against AI companies that stole copyrighted data to "train" their models, then the AI party is also over.

In music, if AIs can't train on music data stolen from Youtube, the AI party is over (Youtube now puts the (P) copyright in addition to (C) and will transition it on all their music videos and content soon ).

What caused Nvidia to rise meteorically can also cause it to fall spectacularly.

Concentrating in one area of business is the worst decision you can make, esp. when governments and courts start noticing you have a monopoly.

Its easy to understand how it went from 88% down to 15%. Helps a lot when you make an AI card and slap a price tag of 8000$. The profit margins are insane. Since it is targeted towards companies it is far easier to just make it massive and it would still sell.
_I_ 26 de fev. às 2:44
in the future you wont need much for a gpu anyways, cloud gaming will have it covered, all it would need is the ability to decode the video stream
PopinFRESH 26 de fev. às 2:55
Gaming GPUs are still a 3+ Billion per quarter market for them. Just because their Data Center segment has revenues that are 10x that doesn't mean they are going to just say "Nah, we don't want another $12 Billion per year.

On the contrary I think you'll more likely see NVIDIA moving to push their CPUs down the stack into consumer options than seeing them abandon consumer GPUs.
