End to free Win11 upgrade

Possible ending of the free upgrade option from Win10 to 11. However this could be rumor or even a scare tactic to try and get more people to migrate to Win11 sooner.
As we've seen this before with regards to users moving from Win7/8 to Win10 for free via the upgrade option or via a clean install and then inputting their previous OS key into Win10 to actuvate it for free. Which while later on did come to an end but not before the support of Win7/8 ended.

the pc i am talking from will be linux as soon as the bs starts because all it has to do is browse on the internet linux is 100% capable of that

also upgrading from windows 10 to 11 is probably the worst thing you can do if you want 11 you need a fresh install to avoid a whole batch of issues because microsoft is terrible at making the upgrade path work flawless maybe it works for some but often those people do not realize what is happening under the hood

one more thing linus torvalds hates ftpm and is ditching it out the kernel yay

Well what users who might want Win11 on their current machine at some point but not ready to do that yet, what you can do is either backup the Win10 OS Drive or do a clone backup of it... then put Win11 on that PC via clean install and activate Win11 using your paid/legit Win10 product key. Once activated ho back to Win10 and if they go through with such an upgrade cut off, that PC and key will be safe because it's already been activated on Win11 before.

IIRC they ended the free upgrade for Windows 10 and I had to end up buying it when I made the leap.

Frankly it is kind of silly because if I have to pay for your sh*tty operating system I am less likely to adopt it. Though I never plan on adopting Windows 11 anyway so...

But Win7/8 users were given MANY YEARS to do that for free by using their Win7/8 key in Win10. They didn't even cut that ability off until end of 2022 I think it was. I remember doing some upgrades for folks and was still able to use their Win7 or 8.1 key to activate a clean install of Win10 for free and that was in Oct 2022.

We're not living in the stone-age; some of us would like to play modern games not to mention modern PC specs. You can't use Win7/8 for those.

I don't understand why people using Win7/8 have to continue to insert themselves.
They are basically irrelevant users in the market overall since all they are obvious running are legacy PCs and playing old or very low demanding games, if still gaming on such a PC.

even windows 10 drivers work under windows 11.

Considering how long after the 'end' of free 7->10 upgrades I did mine, I'll believe it when I see it.

(can a key that was used for the 7->10 upgrade, still do the 10->11 one? Or is the free upgrade only for 'real' Win10 installs?)

I tried to go back to windows 10 a little while back but after it fully updated it said need licence, even format and reinstalling from usb didnt help it still said i need a licence, windows 11 it works fine so I think it's linked to my Microsoft account and I upgraded from 10 to 11 and I did jump on the windows 11 bandwagon quite early, so you might want to be careful, you can't say you haven't had fair warning.

oh one more thing Dont think by not logging in to your account will help Microsft already has that covered they will know from your BIOS ID or unique system ID I guess something similar to what youtube and other websites use to track you.

Isn't Technology amazing and don't you just love it :/ lol
