Is my 8gb ram bottlenecking?
I have laptop with i5 10300h and 1650ti with dual channel 8gb ram(4x2). I was thinking about upgrading it to dual channel 16gb. I was curious if it is going to make any major difference in gaming. I don’t want to upgrade if it is just going to give me extra 5% fps. I am open for any suggestions.

Monitor your RAM usage to know the facts.

more ram only helps if you need more ram

if nothing you do uses more than 8g of total ram, then 8g is fine

odds are the mobile 1650 ti is the limiting factor

It depends on your use case. if your use case doesn't use more than 8GB then going to 16GB won't help too much
But games already push past 8GB very often nowadays and considering how bloated the modern internet is. I would probably upgrade to 16GB anyway just to keep the computer relevant for the longer term and also avoid hitting the swapfile as RAM upgrades are usually very cheap to do
In Gaming? Not really considering the CPU and GPU are simply terrible at best.
Depends on what games you play 16GB system ram can have a massive benefit over 8GB in games and that's a proven fact. (less disk caching) depends on the games.

it will improve multi tasking as well if it cheap enough just buy it.

Yes it generally does help because Win10/11 needs to utilize 5-6 GB at times by itself that leaves nothing for most games without a high constant hit to local drive page file

Bang on mate.

when I used windows 11 steam would be loaded up other game launcher would be loaded up let alone all the crap windows loads up and has runnng in the back ground, with some games running it would not be rare to see the system ram was using way above 16GB when in some games.

That's why I upgraded to 32GB

Considering normal people just let every app autostart on boot, 8gb is a straight scam. Then you factor in Microsoft Windows

on top of a lot of games want you to have there own store front app to play their games on top of steam and every other app only compound the problem of having 8GB system ram.

Your processor is Quad Core and may bottleneck as some games now use more than four cores. . 16GB of Ram will help if your running things in the background. Example Youtube or Chrome.

games are more dependent on core performance than core count
10300h is quad with ht, same as the desktop i3 at the time
but its clocked to 2.5ghz with upto 4.5ghz signle core turbo, 2-4 core turbo will be much lower due to its profiles and keep power draw to 35-45w depending on the laptops power and cooling abilities

and game or if stuff is running that needs more than 8g total ram, will need faster cpu and gpu anyway

the short answer is it will help performance.....how much is a 10 page long answer.....and you will have to write it......

to be brutal the system is just to slow and low on the product stack to play anything but indie games unless you are trying to play games that are 5 years old or older.....3060's are not cutting the mustard for 1080 any more for a lot of people.....the only thing i can say to a 1650ti is "im sorry".....:steamsad:

Yes exactly 8GB ever since Win10 came out was like having 1-2GB on WinXP.

Any PC you plan to use for more then just simple basic stuff should already have or have the ability yo upgrade to 16-32 GB at least and that's really what everyone should be on, again as the minimum for things like Pro Apps needs as well as Gaming. Many of the more demanding Games from around 2015 onward really benefit from having 12-16 GB all to itself.

It's a scam to buy or see Laptops around 2020 onward without 8GB RAM. And they often over-charge to have it come with more RAM already out of the box. But upgrading RAM and/or Drives in most Laptops is fairly simple
