RTX 5090 Founder Edition vs AIB(3rd party)
Hey all

I am going to pony up for the RTX 5090, but I have a question. I have always gone with 3rd party vendors and they for the most part have performed fine.

But is there any downside from buying a founder edition gpu? I am currently eyeballing the RTX 5090 FE or the PNY RTX 5090(I am using the PNY RTX 4080, and PNY has been a very solid brand without adding the extra $500 mark up MSI likes to add)

TLDR?

Pros and cons for FE vs AIB?

Rule of the cheapest, if you want more performance, waterblock it.

Thanks, not asking about waterblocking, I have never water blocked a GPU before. I know thats a good way to increase performance, but im not looking to do that to a gpu

I am merely asking for peoples opinions on the pros and cons of FE vs after market cards. AIBS usually cost more than FE,

In the past I read

FE Pros, better silicon and chip Cons Runs hotter

AIB Pros faster clock speed at times, rgb, better air cooling Cons, support can be nightmarish depending on brand, cost anywhere from $100 to $600 over MSRP, and often made with cheaper fans than FE

Ive never had a FE card to compare personally, but my Best Buy only carries FE, PNY, MSI and ASUS.

Asus will 100% be sold out, and both ASUS and MSI are usually $300 to $500 over MSRP. Making it a $2300 to $2500 card.

PNY is usually same price as FE or $150 over or their RGB variant.

CPU wise yes, I water cool that, but gpu wise, I dont plan to do crazy overclocking and I usually replace my gpu every 4 to 5 years(sooner if i see something I like)

I just need to decide on FE or AIB and looking for feed back.
FE all the way unless you want to spend the extra money on a Asus OC model, it also looks like the 5090FE will be the smallest card available of that particular SKU if size is a concern.

All I can say is good luck to everyone trying to snag one at MSRP in the beginning and ♥♥♥♥ Scalpers don't ever pay over MSRP.

Same here, cheapest works fine unless the cheapest is a mini size version with poor cooling, i get the cheapest normal size.

Just get this lol

I don't understand why huge corporations can't do this when a couple of passionate people can

Because Corporations are greedy SOBS, which is why the RTX 5080 only has 16 gb instead of 20 to 24 like it should. AMD tapped out, so Nvidia doesnt have to try as hard sadly.

Yeah my Bestbuy will only carry FE, PNY, Asus and MSI (sometimes gigabyte) the 4090 was forever sold out, but according to them they intend to have a good stock of them ready for launch
ASUS 5090 for me just to waterblock it months after

My mobo is Asus Rog Strix Z890-f I love their product but Asus is gonna be an easy $2500 for their 5090, and that is before taxes and extended warranty. A wee bit more than I care to eat. But that will be a nice card for sure!!!

It's looking more and more likely that they will release a 24gb 5080 in a year's time that's what I'm waiting for, now whether it's a super or a Ti I have no idea but hoping it's a Ti.

Who knows it's definitely a possibility but I'm not going to fight people over it, I will be waiting regardless.

At MSRP? I doubt.
People will likely be paying $2500+ on day 2.

Rule of the cheapest still applies.

The main reason the expensive models can be a tiny bit faster is power limits and better cooling, but, if you don't mind the noise and max the fans out, there won't be much practical difference and this generation, every card I e seen has the same power limit (575w with the cables rated to 600w) and 4 into 1 12vhpwer connector so no cards gave any real advantage over founders or 'cheap' models (previous generations had notably lower power limits).

The founders, cards have historically had oddly good silicon, but they are not binned... So just coincidental?... Either way, it's down to silicon lottery abd a beastly god bin vs a bad one won't really make much impact.

The 5090 founders looks great with a good cooling solution.

The part about water cooling it was just pointing out the cheapest card with a block will best and likely be cheaper than the 'best' aib card.
