avoid B motherboards or prime
cpu cores + igpu + imc
Asus ROG Strix B650E-F = 12 + 2 with cooling (probably 12+1+1)
Asus Tuf Gaming X870 Plus = 16 + 2 + 1 with cooling
MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI = 14 + 2 + 1 with cooling
Gigabyte Gaming X WiFi 7 X870 = 16 + 2 + 2 with cooling
Asus Prime X870-P = 14 + 2 + 1 with cooling
16 with cooling x ~25w per = ~400w to cpu cores
pick a specific board, there are many asus rog strix boards
and 'gaming' is just a buzzword for crap
And he said no OC
any cheap board can have 2x 4+4 eps connectors, and it makes no difference
the spec for each eps 4+4 connector is ~336w
and the vrms are not 100% efficient, loss is converted to heat
1x 4+4 is enough for most, but some boards have 3x 4+4 which is overkill unless the board is also powering the pci-e slots through them instead of the main 24pin atx
amd only guarantees its imc to DDR5 5600
anything higher is overclocking the imc on the cpu
ymmv beyond that
4 dimms is highly unlikely to hit 6400+
2 dimms should work, just enable xmp in bios to the 6400 profile to set the freq, timings and voltage to the dimms
What kind of utility?
X870 boards are basically renamed B650 boards. I would go with B650E-E(if you dont mind intel lan) B650E Taichi Lite if you have money, X670E Steel Legend or Prime X670E-Pro if you need m.2, B650M-HDV/M.2 or I dont know maybe B650 Tomahawk if you are on budget.
core voltage is known, ~1.2v,
but the choke coils on mobos are pretty much all limited to 25a at 1v = 25w
at 1.2v = 30w, but some loss during conversion, so call it 25w to be safe
NEVER BUY ASUS they could never be trusted
I am aware that there is a solid chance that it wont post when set to 6400MT/s but im willing to take the risk. As far as i know, price difference between 5600 and 6400 is lot smaller than 6400 and 8000. I am going to buy RAM that is on QVL list for the motherboard. Does buying QVL memory increase chance that it will work on that speed or does it only represent that this specific kit was tested on the motherboard. At the end, the only thing left to do when i buy and setup everything is to pray to silicon lottery gods when enabling EXPO. I looked at X870 gaming wifi 7 board and i really like that it uses screwless mounts on ssd and ssd heatsinks. I will check the other boards soon.
