What are ya'll gonna get? 5080 or 5090? (Or something else?)

I'd love to get the 5090, but I think I am gonna stick with the 5080 when it comes out. I currently have a 3080, so it will be a huge jump, and it should eat any game thrown at it on 4k ray tracing until the 60 or 70 series comes out.

What will ya'll be getting?

They will probably change their naming convention another 3 times by then and it'll actually be the "Radeon RXX XYZ ZERO"
Well, if the rumors are true they are aping Nvidia's naming again with an RX 9070XT. Given AMD executives have said they aren't intending to go after the high-end of the market it is highly unlikely they would be releasing an RX 9900XTX, or an RX 9090XTX or whatever name that would be trying to compete with an RTX 5090. Given the specs that have leaked for the 50-series I'd fully expect the gap (in performance) from the RTX 5080 to the RTX 5090 to be significantly wider than the gap from the RTX 4080 to the RTX 4090.

On the AMD side, the "leaks" of benchmarks are still somewhat questionable and the rumors from some people who've more consistently been accurate would seem to put the "RX 9070XT" competing with what is around the expected performance level of the RTX 5070 in terms of rasterization performance. AMD really needs this gen to improve a lot more in RT performance and they need to have at least a decent improvement in quality with their move to an ML model based FSR. The PS5 Pro at least gives a partially filled canister of hopium in regards to RT performance; but they are way behind in that regard and even Intel's Battlemage RT performance is significantly better than current AMD offerings.

It really is going to boil down to how willing AMD will be to cut their margins on their GPU lineup in order to compete on value to stave off Intel stealing away the lower-mid range market while AMD is also unable to compete at the top-end with Nvidia.

no one really cares about Ray Tracing......im still turning it off in every game when i can.....they need to find a way to do it without specialized cores or its not going to be here long.....

i will never care about ray tracing....and a lot of the market does not care ether.....

Very happy with my now 2 day old 7900 XTX and I did try it with some RT, Witcher 3 1440P maxed out is gets over 100 FPS with RT on using XeSS quality upscaling.

But in fairness the RT is subtle and not really worth using, but it can do it.

The card is stock.

It scored above average actually... whilst being held back.

no reason to not OC anything nowdays when you get extra performance
