Can't map my L4 and R4 buttons to do anything. 8bitdo ultimate 2c controller
Yesterday I bought and 8bitdo ultimate 2c controller, that comes with an extra L4 and R4 buttons customizable buttons (but no software support), however, I can't seem to be able to map them on anything. I would like for the L4 to work as the B button, and R4 as the R3 button

When I use the steam controller layout menu I need to click on the button instead of actually pressing it on my controller, so I have no way of telling steam about their existence. Ingame (Dark Souls 1) doesn't recognize the buttons either.

Any ideas on how to make those two buttoms usable?

"Ultimate Software."

Controllers needing separate support software to map buttons has always been an issue. Microsoft pushing the newfangled xinput standard was supposed to address that, but since it doesn't work for buttons beyond their standard layout, it's really no better than the tried-and-true DirectInput.

We need to support platform-agnostic, open standards for controller mapping. I've always liked the Open Source AntiMicroX, but last I checked, it still didn't recognize nonstandard rear grip buttons and stuff.

The square button on the controller is the mapping button. Hold down square button and press B and L4. Next, do the other one by holding down square button, R3 and R4.

If you want to do unique commands, there is a way to do that, which I explain here.

Launch Steam, if not a Steam Game add it into Steam Client as non-Steam game. Launch game, once launched to game main menu bring up the Steam Overlay and configure the controller
