Xbox/Ps4 controller, which one better?
My ps4 controller that I've been using for more than a decade is on it's last legs. Which controller is better for PC gaming?

I'm thinking of just getting a new PS4 controller, but are there any upsides to switching to an XBox controller? Do they still use batteries? I haven't owned an Xbox since the 360 era.

Xbox controllers can work on AA (rechargeable) batteries or on dedicated battery packs that can be charged while playing. They also use USB-C for playing and charging when ps4 controllers use flimsy micro USB ports and a tiny built in battery that doesn’t have good replacement options - so when the batteries die the whole controller needs to be replaced. Ebay DS4 batteries are worthless.

I personally use Xbox Series X for the best compatibility and DualSense controller for better dpad and when games use haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. But DualSense must have wired connection for some features in some games to work properly. I don’t mind that but if wireless connection is preferred then Xbox controllers are better IMHO.

So the newest Xbox controller doesn't have USB charging? What decade am I in?

the cheaper xbox 1/s/x controllers use aa batteries, and you can buy rechargeable packs for them

ones like this have internal rechargeable packs in them and charge from usb
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/elite-wireless-controller-series-2

or you can buy the rechargeable pack for xbox 1/s/x controllers
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/batteries-chargers/play-and-charge-kit

or there are aftermarket rechargeable battery kits, that replace the battery cover
but be careful on what you order, as the xbox 1, and s/x use different battery covers not compatible with each other

If you have the rechargeable battery pack all you need to do is plug in the controller via usb-c and charge it, a single charge lasts considerably longer then ps4/5 controller.
Putting an analog stick above the dpad is an abominable affront to nature, same as uninverted Y in shooters.
xBox because they are higher quality.

real world Xbot controllers are better do to X input at the base of window drivers.....any play station controller has to use mapping software (even if its built in to the game) as it does not have X input

me i bought 7 of the rock candy 360 controllers off Ebay for 20 bucks.....4 of them looked like they had never been used and the other 3 were in better shape then real OG 360 controller i had......

I like the DualSense, as it has features that the Xbox controller lacks, like gyro and trackpads. I also prefer the joysticks and the ergonomics of the DualSense.

The biggest advantage to the Xbox controller is that most games use Xbox button prompts. The batteries are removable and have to be replaced when they run out. But if you get rechargeable batteries, that solves that problem.

DualSense battery life isn't as good. I recommend getting a 2nd controller with a dual charger, so you always have a charged controller when one runs out.

I never had a battery issue with ps4 controllers but I think I'll make the switch anyway. Thank you all for your recommendations!
