3090 or 4080 super?
With alot of newer games requiring 12gb min of VRAM for 4k gaming, what would be the better card? I know the 50 series is coming out but I doubt I will have the type of money to get a 5080 or 5090 (if they are even in stock at the time). As such, I am thinking of either the 3090 (ti) or 4080 super. Most likely, once the 50 series comes out, these cards will drop in price a little.

I know the 4080 super performs slightly better than the 3090 (from what I have read), but the 3090 has 24 VRAM as opposed to 16 which the 4080 super has. I am leaning to the 3090 because it is similar to performance to the 4080 super (a little less but nothing too significant), has more VRAM, will probably be a little cheaper, and I can even get EVGA (sad they stopped making GPUs).

What do yall think?

My current GPU is a 3080 10gb. Ideally, I like playing 4k, 60 fps.

Slightly better? ^^
We are talking at least 25 to 30% faster on 4K if I remember correctly plus way more power efficient.
The VRAM is debatable I guess. Ive personally never exceeded 16GB of ram on 4K with games like RDR2, Cyberpunk (Path Tracing), MSFS2020 or Metro Exodus (RayTracing).

3090 vs 4080S is not even debatable if you ask me.
4070 SUPER is roughly equivalent to a 3090 while drawing half as much power, the 4080 SUPER is at least around 30% faster than the 3090.

There's effectively zero reason to go with an RTX 30 series GPU at all over 40 series unless it's at an extreme discount and you can deal with the lack of VRAM on most of the product stack. 3090 is inefficient considering the performance it brings isn't special anymore.
in 1440p an 4080s does about 130fps, while an 3090 does 110fps
in 4k an 4080s does about 90fps while an 3090 does 70 fps

so unless you can get that 3090 at a GREAT price I see no reason to go with the 3090.

if price is the issue :

the radeon 7900xtx (which performs even better than an 4080s but usually costs less)
and the radeon 7900xt (which performs right halfway an 3090 and 4080s might also be considered.

16GB 50 or 40 series is better but I'm in 5th year still rocking it and well

89 games

2010 to 2016 card avg 130+ at 1440p 165Hz Ultra

Only Quantum Break Watch dog 2 in SF Both 2016 games do 95 118

2017 to 2023 120+ fps

Then CP2077 RDR2 only 2 I lower setting and under 100fps
2 to 3 racing 115 130
1440p 165Hz Ultra is mostly fine on 3090RTX

Yes newer is always better but if can get dirt cheap for 1440p why not
