first gen i7 will throttle at 100c
Intel says TjMax is roughly 72*C though
But yea if not throttling; should be fine. Just keep an eye on it.
Clean out any dust. Maybe get a better CPU Cooler and case fans, as needed.
1) your stock cooler is old and the motor in the fan is probably getting worn.
2) your thermal paste is probably old and not as good as new though it could be re-applied.
3) your cooler is almost certainly dusty.
The first one can only be fixed by a replacement cooler but you can fix the second and 3rd with some new thermal paste and cleaning respectively.
I'd still suggest a new cooler, get something nice with a replaceable fan and metal heatpipes. It should last decades.
intel 1366 stock coolers are good enough for the 130w cpus at stock speeds
if the cpu fan is noisy it could be going bad
thermal paste doesnt go bad, its fine as long as the cooler is not seperated from the cpu, in wich case new thermal paste should be used
a new cooler could help, 212evo is enough for a small oc on the 1366 cpu
or h100+ for larger oc
I have some Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond stuff though that does not seem to dry out. It's specifically advertised to not dry out, so far as I can tell it has not done so as per performance.
75C gaming with an i7 with a stock fan is fine and normal so I have no idea what the other people here are talking about...., nothing seems wrong here, maybe think about getting a pre-installed watercool, you can get really good cheap ones like the Seidon 120M. Don't waste money on anything higher :)
How about the CM Seidon 120V? How does that compare to the 120M?
As the 120V is usually around $50
a lot of thermal paste will NOT dry out, it will reverse the effect of thermal pastes which is making the cpu a lot more hotter
that's why there's a guide to it named youtube
as for cooler, just get CM hyper 212 evo
