RTX 3080 to RTX 5090 or 5080?
CPU: 5900x (will be replaced in 2 years)
RAM: RGB Ram 32 GB
Resoultion: 3440 x 1440p - 144hz (fps target, desirable fps - 100 fps)

I need to upgrade my GPU. I am not sure whether 5080 or 5090 is a better option.

My goal - I replace GPUs every 5 years but this time I would like to keep it for max 7 years (if I go with 5090) or max 5 years if 5080.

I like ultra or high res textures and want to play all games at high/ultra.

I have RTX 5090 on pre order and I know that 5080s will start appearing in 1-2 weeks so I could get one. Should I keep my 5090 pre order or try to get 5080.

The problem is that 5080s are priced quite high. Eg TUF and other cards between £ 1299 - £ 1499. I could spend up to £ 1350 but is my 5090 pre order at £ 2320 not a better value for money?

Thanks.

So for my needs this is the preference. I see. Thanks !
If you can get a 4090 for around 5080 pricing or less, that would be the best value because the 5080 is still slower than a 4090
If you want to throw $3000 for GPU and $250 for PSU into trash because their connectors got melted then sure 5090.
Well, it seems the 5090 might be having power cable issues

I would not like any of these things to happen.

It is impossible to get a new 4090 for the price of 5080. You cant buy these anywhere. It is 5080 or 5090 only for me as I watnt a new GPU.

Is it FE or 3rd party? I would be using cable approved by Corsair with hx1500i.

You can get them second hand, and at least before launch they were actually selling around 5080 MSRP but people were still listing them for more

(selling and listing are two different things, people often check second hand prices with a quick search but don't actually check completed sales)

It's happening with both FE and AIB models, it's more than likely an issue with the design itself, again.

WTH do they expect when they try to pump 600W through cables and plugs that are good for maybe half of that max. You would need cables like on electric heaters for that.
The engineers at Nvidia and executives who approved this should be fired.

This is worrying indeed. I might cancel my 5090 pre order and just look for 5080. I would not like my psu to catch fire or cables to melt. It would not be nice. Who would I have to sue to recover the cost. I dont want these problems. I am 129th in a queue for 5090. I think that many people will think twice about getting one. Oh no.....
It's a 575W TGP card for the FE but that doesn't even account for power spikes either, pushes it well over 600W.

Technically speaking, for stability reasons, it should've been designed with two of those connectors if they're still only rated for 600W.

I have read few articles and the problem is with users using 3rd party cable. I should be ok with a cable approved by PSU manufactuter, corsair newer 12pvw 2 x 6 cable. It should be ok?
